Senator Barack Obama will promise change -- and spells out specifics such as tax cuts for the middle class -- as he accepts the Democratic presidential nomination tonight.
Obama also warns that Republican John McCain would mean four more years of President Bush's flawed policies, declaring America, we are better than these last eight years. We are a better country than this..
Here are excerpts of the speech, titled "The American Promise," just released by Obama's campaign:
Four years ago, I stood before you and told you my story of the brief union between a young man from Kenya and a young woman from Kansas who werent well-off or well-known, but shared a belief that in America, their son could achieve whatever he put his mind to.
It is that promise that has always set this country apart that through hard work and sacrifice, each of us can pursue our individual dreams but still come together as one American family, to ensure that the next generation can pursue their dreams as well.
It is why I stand here tonight. Because for two hundred and thirty two years, at each moment when that promise was in jeopardy, ordinary men and women students and soldiers, farmers and teachers, nurses and janitors -- found the courage to keep it alive.
We meet at one of those defining moments a moment when our nation is at war, our economy is in turmoil, and the American promise has been threatened once more.
Tonight, more Americans are out of work and more are working harder for less. More of you have lost your homes and more are watching your home values plummet. More of you have cars you cant afford to drive, credit card bills you cant afford to pay and tuition

BS as thick as you spread it.
“Oh, the Wonder of Me...”
Those lettuce leaves should be marijuana leaves.
Amazingly Obama wants us to return to the failed policies of the Soviet Union.
These challenges are not all of governments making. But the failure to respond is a direct result of a broken politics in Washington and the failed presidency of George W. Bush.
Make sense to anyone?
Barack Hussein Caligula Obama.
Just ask Larry Sinclair.
Obama: Let’s all pretend the economy didn’t grow, we didn’t take Afghanistan, win in Iraq, and for that matter let’s pretend Bush didn’t sign the biggest entitlement program in 50 years, didn’t give Africa billions for AIDS, that Europe didn’t elect pro Bush governments.
Just what is Obama talking about???
Rent the movie “Idiocracy”. Take particular note of the President in it. The depiction is what an Obama Presidency will become.
I just threw up in my mouth a little...
every point in history you point to had limited smaller government. Fact is government screwed up America so we want to go back to smaller government which means no you.
When's he going to find the time to talk to terrorists?
such a bad, bad place.. this country we live in... so unfair... God, I’ve never seen such a bunch of ingrates. that’s what McCain should say.. He’s never seen so much possibility, so much fairness, in any country on earth, and now America is decried as unfair, by the great unwashed..
I read through the speech. Ho-hum, ho-hum. Typical leftist defeatist tripe. Barack Hussein Obama can just go screw himself and his stupid fake temple, but he’s right. We are a better country than to elect his marxist traitorous ass.
The sheeple will love it. Media sycophants will call it the best political speech ever given. Keith Olbermann will wet his diaper.
Yo, Obami, you blew $110 million on Chicago schools and have nothing to show for it. Good Resume’
I will eliminate capital gains taxes for the small businesses and the start-ups that will create the high-wage, high-tech jobs of tomorrow.
I will cut taxes cut taxes for 95% of all working families. Because in an economy like this, the last thing we should do is raise taxes on the middle-class.
And for the sake of our economy, our security, and the future of our planet, I will set a clear goal as President: in ten years, we will finally end our dependence on oil from the Middle East.
Standard issue liberal crap as usual.
But the Messiah will be glorified for this “new” message!
