Choosing Mitt, Not Choosing Mitt
Jay Severin ^ | August 28, 2008 | Jay Severin

John McCain has reportedly chosen his running mate and will announce it tomorrow. It will leak today. Is it Mitt Romney? I hope so, and if you don't want President Obama, you'd better hope so, too - because if McCain does not choose Mitt, McCain loses.

Snip ... internal McCain polling shows that of all people he is considering for VP, Mitt Romney attracts the most votes.

In fact the polling shows a McCain ticket including Romney makes ONE OUT OF FIVE VOTERS MORE LIKELY TO VOTE FOR McCAIN - ACROSS PARTY LINES! (Nobody else scores like this.)

Snip I believe McCain is thin-skinned and hasn't forgiven Mitt for challenging him during he primary. McCain is a liberal and wants another liberal on the ticket - like Lieberman! A big part of my instinct - and McCain's words in the past few days - discourage me in believing it is Mitt. I dearly hope I am wrong. A bi part of me knows McCain wants to produce an 'out-of-the-box' choice - like a woman, maybe even pro-choice woman.

If he does, he will lose, and richly deserve to.ww

That said: I am counting on John McCain's wanting to win. That requires picking a winner, someone who gets you the win: Mitt Romney.

One has to wonder why any self respecting Conservative would want to be on a ticket with McQueeg.

The statistics are interesting, but don’t tell much if it isn’t broken down by states, which is far more important info when making a choice. For that reason, it may be none of the above.

NOBODY could help McCain carry MA - except Karl Marx.

I’m speaking as a former resident.

As a current resident, I regret to say that you are probably right.

I say "probably", because I can't bear to admit the truth.

When did Romney become a conservative? I am still perplexed by all this Romney conservative talk. Look at the record not the rhetoric.

"APPEARING ON THE MICHAEL GRAHAM SHOW THIS MORNING, A BOSTON HERALD COLUMNIST REPORTS HER SOURCES WITHIN MCCAIN CAMPAIGN POINT TO CHOICE OF MINNESOTA GOVERNOR TIM PAWLENTY.

Why are you shouting? That's as bad as Drudge, master of the stuck caps-lock key.

Romney sucks, by the way.

I see the koolaid drinkers are still out in force spreading the lie that Myth Romney is a conservative instead of the flaming liberal that he is. Sheez.

State results? Okay then, here is yesterday's Florida result from Mason-Dixon :

The same poll had McCain and Obama tied. McCain cannot win without Florida, and Mitt helps him there, whereas Pawlenty does nothing but hurt him.

Using the same logic, Obama should have gone with Hillary, but he didn’t for the same reason McCain won’t pick Romney. Look, you can lash me with a wet noodle if I’m wrong, but it isn’t Romney. A little bird told me he was told by McCain he could go ahead with his other plans for the weekend, no need to cancel. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong. We’ll see soon enough.

Those polls aren’t worth the paper they are written on.

1. It’s name recognition more as much as anything.
2. Anybody that who gets excited about Romney as VP is an arch conservative who will vote AGAINST OBAMA (which means McCain already has their vote.)

Romney will cost crossover votes. There are plenty of Dems that are unsure about Obama who will crossover and vote Republican UNLESS we have a VP candidate they can’t stomach—Romney. Romney has positioned himself as the next Reagan, which is poision to crossover dems.

Pawlenty doesn’t do anything to offend the base, but he doesn’t offend crossover voters either.

A good analogy is when Bob Barr and John Linder ran against each other when their districts were reorganized. At the time, there wasn’t a dime’s worth of difference between their political positions. Linder beat the hell out of Barr, because even though he was just as right wing as Barr, Linder attracted both right wing and moderate voters.

Romeny attracts right wing voters. Pawlenty attracts right wing and moderate voters.

Sean Hannity said a few minutes ago that the pick will be known just before his show goes off the air today, or just before 6:00 pm EDT. He thinks that is coming from a reliable source.

I bet we don't know till Friday at the rally. McCain is being shrewd. How else do you get the media there?

Whatever you think, you and others prejudices are not letting you see the bigger picture. LOTS OF PEOPLE LOVE MITT!

Mitt will bring along the women for Hillary; they will all become Mittens. Mitt will get the finance and business owners; do you think they want the Marxist's taxes? They love Mitt and will work hard for him. John will bring the vast majority of the military. Together they will be great.
