VANCOUVER, British Columbia - An earthquake off Canada's west coast has shaken the area around Vancouver Island. The quake Thursday is the latest in a series of coastal tremors since Monday. The latest quake had a magnitude of 6.1 and struck 97 miles west of Port Hardy, off the north coast of Vancouver Island.
If I was in Denver, I’d be worried about a Rocky Mountain quake, hail and brimstone!

Any southbound Alaska cruise ships in the area?
I have no idea — I’m a few hundred miles inland....
My folks are down at Long Beach and that’s pretty flat, don’t think there is a Tsunami problem.
Busy there today:

Glad to hear from you. I have friends on Lennard Island and just e-mailed them to see how they are but they don’t check their e-mail very often.
We were on a cruise ship around that area a few weeks ago.
I wonder what it would be like to be on a cruise ship during an earthquake at sea.
I was in the Bay Area during the Loma Prieta earthquake, and I don’t like them.
We did the southbound from Seward, AK to Vancouver last year for our first cruise. I have never experienced an earthquake, and am getting too old to start now... :)
Like this, perhaps?
Actually, tsunamis don't reach any appreciable height until they get close to shore.
I’ve been to the Long Beach peninsula many times - fun place. It sure seems that when the big one happens that everything there will be wiped out. It is a gamble to have a beach house there.
Lots and LOTS of earthquakes there!!!

Did you see “Poseidan Adventure”?
Yes, I have and it reminded me of the one funny thing about the cruise. One day about the time we’re going to see the main glacier and we’re starting to see icebergs in the water, we turned on the TV. Guess what was playing? Titanic. Nothing like watching Titanic when you are on a cruise ship with icebergs around!
I love Long Beach. Such a quirky place. I go there many times each year, even in the fall.
