LONDON: British and American activists arrested by the Chinese for protesting about Tibet during the Olympics have said that they were locked to their chairs for marathon interrogation sessions and deprived of sleep.
The activists, including eight Americans, a German and Amanda McKeown, a mother of two from Bristol, were sent home on Sunday during the games closing ceremony.
They said they were kept in cells and allowed to leave only for interrogations, which dragged on for up to 16 hours at a time, The Telegraph reported.
With lights shining on them, prisoners were locked into high-backed metal chairs with bars across their laps.
The protesters said they were made to wear dirty uniforms of red T-shirts and black shorts. Drinking water was turned on for only 15 minutes a day.
Arriving at Heathrow airport, McKeown, 41, said she was elated to be back. In New York, the American protesters said their interrogators accused them of having ties to the US government.
Merely a cultural misunderstanding. That’s also how they treat their gold-medal winning athletes.
all in the spirit of the games, it seems.
On their heads???
I think one would rationally conclude that it was not, unless you want to inject the new political correctness from the leftward land of lunacy.
I don't agree with China..at all. But as gallant as these protesters were, they ran afoul of the Chinese government and broke their law.
At least they were released and there was no international incident.
No. When WE do this it's torture. When the communists do it it's a "marathon interrogation".
This is a scary situation for them. A foreign prison and a foreign judicial system.
Any time I am oversees, I’m on my best behavior.
It’s not America where you have due process.
Wait, wait, wait a second! I thought only the US tortured it’s prisoners.
those stupid guys deserve it.
Look at the bright side. At least they didn’t make them wear panties on their heads.
It’s all fun and games til some liberal loses an eye.
Perhaps this experience will cause them to flee from their liberal ideology and embrace conservative viewpoints.
Just wow. Some real dingbat responses on this thread. I can’t believe Freepers sympathizing with ChiCom secret police over American or British citizens.
These people had the courage to stand up for the Tibetan people in very belly of the ChiCom dragon. Takes some balls. That says a lot more to me that some liberal parlour Buddhist in Marin County with a Free Tibet sticker on their BMW.
How the heck do you even know what their ideology is? All we know is that they oppose ChiCom control of Tibet.
"These people had the courage to stand up for the Tibetan people in very belly of the ChiCom dragon. Takes some balls. That says a lot more to me that some liberal parlour Buddhist in Marin County with a Free Tibet sticker on their BMW." MEGA BUMP!
“How the heck do you even know what their ideology is? All we know is that they oppose ChiCom control of Tibet.”
Because it’s the likes of Richard Gere, liberal Hollywood activist and good buddy of the Dali Llama, and his liberal ilk that are the most ardent pro-Tibet protesters. More so than the politics of it, they are all caught up with the Bhuddist religion which they think is mystical and cool to be. My guess if you asked these protesters their politics, they would all be liberals.
