Prelates around the country react to Pelosis abortion comments but San Francisco archbishop remains conspicuously silent
Bishops from New York to Denver have issued official statements from their chanceries and posted them to diocesan web sites in an attempt to set the record straight about what the Church teaches regarding abortion. The flurry of episcopal activity followed an Aug. 24 interview in which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, told Meet the Press that Catholic doctrine on abortion is not clear.
[[Egan082708.jpg]]Professing herself to be an ardent, practicing Catholic, Pelosi said, I don't think anybody can tell you when life begins, human life begins. As I say, the Catholic Church for centuries has been discussing this over the history of the church, this is an issue of controversy.
Cardinal Edward Egan: Pelosis view utterly incredible in this day and age.
Within 48 hours of Pelosis remarks, Cardinal Edward Egan, Archbishop of New York, issued a statement expressing his shock at Pelosis nationally televised statements, adding What the Speaker had to say about theologians and their positions regarding abortion was not only misinformed; it was also, and especially, utterly incredible in this day and age.
Cardinal Egans statement continued, We are blessed in the 21st century with crystal-clear photographs and action films of the living realities within their pregnant mothers. No one with the slightest measure of integrity or honor could fail to know what these marvelous beings manifestly, clearly, and obviously are, as they smile and wave into the world outside the womb. In simplest terms, they are human beings with an inalienable right to live, a right that the Speaker of the House of Representatives is bound to defend at all costs for the most basic of ethical reasons.

Sadly he appears too concerned about his collection plate to say or do anything.
Who in their right mind would pick a fight with a huge Church organization two months before a national election?
No one!
Proves she’s not in her right mind!

Isn’t Niederauer the one who gave the Eucharist to a member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence while said “sister” was in full drag?
Just wondering.
“Niederauer the one who gave the Eucharist to a member of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence while said sister was in full drag?”

“He probably has a boyfriend too.”
Excuse me, this is NOT the DU!
You can pick up your anti-Catholic Bigot Badge on your way out!
Pelosi’s Archbishop doesn’t want to anger the stoic woman or the rest of her constituents.
Or, maybe, he, too, is getting free facial rework from that Filipino plastic surgeon.
It looks like even Archbishops cater to their constituencies, in his case by staying silent.
i bet a lot of govt. grants to the diocesan catholic charities and hospitals is steered his way and doesn’t want to rock the boat.
Well put mimaw! I suggest that all us Catholics take a print out of this post to our pasters and ask them to contact the Bishop to express our how we, The Church, feel about this. I for one will be placing a copy in the offering.

I'm going to wait and see what he has to say prior to rendering any personal judgment on him...
Niederauer was a bad appointment, I’m afraid. For the most part, newly appointed bishops have been big improvements over their predecessors, but he seems to have been a sorry exception.
Well, I don’t know that much about the man.
I do think Niederauer got “ambushed” by the “nuns”...
he was “new on the job” and was obviously surprised by their appearance in that ridiculous outfit when they came up to receive Holy Communion...so I’ll give Niederauer the benefit of the doubt...
but NOW, Niederauer MUST “step up to the plate” and unequivocally repudiate Pelosi’s remarks about the Catholic Church & the unborn!
