There's no Obama-Biden bounce, according to the latest tracking polls. In fact, as of Wednesday morning, Scott Rasmussen reports a 47-46 one-point lead for McCain.
Gallup has the race even and indicates that conservative Democrats including married women are peeling away from Obama-Biden.
Has a McCain bounce occurred during the Democratic convention? It's not out of the question.
Sen. Hillary Clinton gave a strong speech Tuesday night, at one point invoking a powerful Reaganesque sense of American optimism and confidence. Good for her.
But the early morning line Wednesday didn't show any bump for Obama, despite Hillary's endorsement. Her husband, meanwhile, has virtually endorsed McCain. And he indicated he'd be leaving town following his speech Wednesday night.
But there's more to this Obama-Biden-bounce deficit than the Clinton cold shoulder. Another Gallup poll says 50% of Americans expect their taxes to be raised under Obama. And make no mistake about it: There are many doubts about the Illinois senator regarding his experience, his foreign policy, his economics and his prior political and spiritual relationships.
Despite some good moments Monday night, Michelle Obama didn't erase these doubts. In the end, only her husband can do it. And only Obama can unite the badly split Democrats at this late date.
Reagan united a split GOP in 1980. George W. Bush united the McCain, Forbes and cultural-conservative factions in 2000.
Goldwater couldn't do it in '64. Nor could Humphrey in '68, Ford in '76 or Carter in '80.
But Bill Clinton succeeded in '92, and now it's Obama's task in '08. That's his job. No one can do it for him.
While the stock market looked warily on the Democratic National Convention this week, a lead story in the Wall Street Journal offered a serious indictment of Obama's economic program.

You got me curious so I started looking around.
The Wikipedia article is actually pretty good about listing all the faults, real, imagined and just plain nasty. :-)
Ummmmm ... OK, Clemenza mentioned that, although not quite as graphic as you did ... but it ain't that bad looking a car, or a grill or what not ... most of the cars in the 50's were huge, big tailed monsters with garish looking grilles and such ... what set the Edsel apart from those, and made it so unmarketable and an endless joke?
The other 50% don't pay any taxes now and don't expect to pay any later--the ideal democrat voters.
Hillary would have won EASILY...there really is a God...man alone could not have come up with what has gone down these last few months...
The HRC performances will help Obama by tomorrow, I predict. 2-4 points, not much.
Biden and Obama are both losers, so why would Obama get a bounce with him?
Biden is an ass. He just stated in his DNC speech that Obama helped to lower taxes for hardworking people in Illinois? Liar! Our taxes (especially here in Chicago) are the highest in the nation! They just raised our sales tax here, so that Chicago residents must go outside the city to buy things affordably. Those Democrats have taxed us to death, and they DARE to talk about cutting taxes?
Obama has even stated that if elected President, he will have to raise taxes. (Hey Biden, talk with your buddy Obama, and he’ll tell you he loves high taxes, because Obama believes Government knows better what to do with our money than WE do!
Definitely a God. In fact, the longer I live after the fact, the more I realize Reagan’s very existence was officially an “act of God.”
Rush excoriated the ObamaNation when he was talking about telling people how to live.
Hypocrats don’t care, if Obama demanded their first borns, they’d show up with them tomorrow night and blame it on Bush!
I never found the Edsel particularly ugly. If you compare it to a Pontiac Aztec, Plymouth Pacer or AMC Gremlin it’s practically a work of art.
Doesn’t matter; what happens in the polls tomorrow will indicate the future. And McCain is still trailing in Zogby; Zogby is left-slanted, and Bush’s resurgance in ‘04 was only considered credible once even Zogby couldn’t ignore it.
McCain can still lose, don’t kid yourselves. He should be doing a helluva lot better than he is. Fortunately, he’s run a perfect campaign up to this point, and has a treasure trove of fodder for the next couple of months. I’m just not sure it’s enough.
The Edsel took away from Ford and Mercury. They did not manage to take many customers away from Crysler and GM. Hence, the failure.
We had a case lesson on the Edsel at A Well Known Eastern Business School when I was enrolled there circa 1979. If I remember correctly:
Number one, the Edsel was introduced during a recession in automotive sales.
Number two, exaggerated styling of a type that the public was moving away from. While the rest of the auto design world (short of DeSoto, perhaps) was moving away from the fins and excess of the 1950s, the Edsel was a emphatic redux of old styling.
Three, new dealers. Ford didn’t have its loyal network of dealers selling and promoting the Edsel. Edsel was to be a new line (such as GM’s Buick, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Cadillac) and was sold by new dealers, many of whom couldn’t handle the cash flow of the slow selling Edsel.
Ford waaaaaaay overhyped the car in advertising, billing it as ten years on the drafting table (and some of the Edsel was ten years’ stale) and the first totally new car concept in twenty years. Prospective buyers expected so much that they were disappointed upon seeing the car at a dealer. It. Was. Just. A. Car.
Trying to create a market for a new line, Edsel, at a high price point, was also unsuccessful because Ford itself had cannibalized the potential Edsel market by introducing the sporty Ford Fairlane just before the Edsel’s introduction. The Fairline was significantly less expensive.
The biggest lesson that I remember from the case study was instead of identifying a single market segment for the Edsel, Ford tried to create a new brand and designed its introductory models essentially by committee. The car was designed to appeal to several different market segments without concentrating enough on appealing to any one market segment.
I laughed when I saw the dems claiming party unity after Hilary's speech...that would make her the uniter not Obama...don't think the libs are aware enough to notice their messiah fails at everything they claim is his strengths. He's the most liberal Senator, he has no history about working with republicans, although he does lie about that. He does take nearly nonstop lying from the Clinton book, but he's not slick enough to get away with it. He's a radical, pro-infanticide racist. Just how do the dems think this guy is going to unite the country? It would seem with a jackboot, judging from his behavior toward anyone who disagrees with him.
Mulva?
i did not see this:
* Woman: You don’t know my name, do you?
* Jerry: Yes I do.
* Woman: What is it?
* Jerry: It...uh...rhymes with a female body part.
* Woman: What is it?
* Jerry: Mulva?
George:—Mulva!
George: —Aretha!
* Kramer: Who’s gonna turn down a junior mint? It’s chocolate, it’s peppermint, it’s delicious!
* Jerry: That’s true.
* Kramer: It’s very refreshing!
I remember an episode of the Munsters in which Grandpa had to go to Detroit to locate a distant relative to help either cast a spell or remove one. This guy was an automotive exec. He had this secret room attached to his office. Once they were in there he put on all his wizard garb. When asked what were his bonafides, he replied “ Do you remember the Edsel?”.
Now you know.
BHO may have about a 5 points bump by Sunday. Then for him it’s all down hill from there. I do worry a little about that hurricane heading for LA.
Ugly car with an ugly name.
