Virginia could still get a VP nod - with Cantor for the GOP
Virginia-Pilot ^ | August 27, 2008 | Dale Eisman

A Virginian didn’t make it onto the Democratic ticket this year, but there’s still a chance one will land a spot with the Republicans.

With presidential candidate John McCain expected to name his choice this weekend, U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor of Henrico County continues to be mentioned as a possible running mate.

Cantor is in his fourth House term, representing a district that stretches north and west from the Richmond suburbs and includes much of the state’s Piedmont region. It is a Republican stronghold, with more than 61 percent of its voters backing President Bush in 2004.

A Richmond native, Cantor earned an undergraduate degree at George Washington University and a law degree at the College of William and Mary. He also received a master’s degree at Columbia University in New York in 1985.

Particularly outside his district, Cantor’s wife, Diana, probably is better known than her husband to most Virginians. She was director of the Virginia College Savings Plan from 1996 until January of this year, frequently appearing in television ads that encouraged parents to enroll in the tax-free savings program.

I just don’t see a member of the House of Representatives being selected as a VP candidate, a Senator maybe, but not a member of the House of Representatives (the lower house).

I would have no problem supporting a McCain/Cantor ticker. I just don’t know if he is the best choice.

"I know nothing about him either." http://www.ontheissues.org/VA/Eric_Cantor.htm 97% ACU lifetime rating --- Duncan Hunter garndering a 92%. So conservative that Freeper "pissant" said "he's not a RINO, even if he's a bit weak on China" (or somesuch). That's like a ringing endorsement from pissant who considered Fred "punch the hippies" Thompson just shy of a communist.

http://www.ontheissues.org/VA/Eric_Cantor.htm Hope this helps. He would be a great choice and all a conservative could ask. I couldn’t care less if he is in the House or Senate because I doubt half that vote know the difference. Also I would add that Reid, Hussein and Kankles are Senators so it couldn’t be that much more prestigious than being a Representative. :)

Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission and a titan of the religious right...

Jewish GOPer Eric Cantor, however, would be a-okay in Land’s book:

I’ll tell you another choice that I think would ring a lot of bells among evangelical and Catholic social conservatives, and I think could have some real electoral punch to it, is Eric Cantor, the congressman from Richmond. He’s the fourth highest person in the House leadership. He is a conservative, observant Jew, a one hundred percent pro-life voting record. And if he picked Cantor, that would probably help hold Virginia. And it would increase McCain’s percentage of the Jewish vote in Florida and Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Rep. Cantor Urges Resolution Against Iran

Posted by Jennifer Siegel, March 30, 2007, 11:34 am

As the crisis involving Iran’s seizure of 15 British sailors continues, Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia is calling for action in the House today.

Cantor is urging Speaker Nancy Pelosi to bring H. Res. 267 to the floor today prior to adjournment. The bill calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the British marines and sailors who were taken captive by Iran. It also calls on the U.N. Security Council to not only condemn the seizure, but to explore harsher sanctions to counter the growing Iranian threat.

Here’s the letter:

March 29, 2007

Speaker Nancy Pelosi United States Capitol Building Suite 232 Washington, DC 20515-0001

Dear Madam Speaker:

Fifteen kidnapped British marines and sailors recently became the latest victims of a systematic Iranian campaign of terror and international defiance. The illegal seizure of the British forces is a signal that Iran views us as powerless to prevent it from realizing its aggressive ambitions.

For the sake of our standing in the world, our allies and most importantly the 15 British personnel and their families, I urge you to bring H. Res. 267 to the floor today before we adjourn. The resolution calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the British marines and sailors. It would also call on the U.N. Security Council to not only condemn the seizure, but to explore harsher sanctions to counter the growing Iranian threat.

With kind regards, I am

Sincerely, /S/ Eric Cantor

ERIC CANTOR FOR VICE PRESIDENT

Posted by MAXIMUS

I’ve been thinking a long time about this. Who can help McCain excite and motivate the conservative base in this year’s Presidential election? Who understands how important it is to have a balanced budget WITHOUT congressional earmarks for pork barrel projects? Who understands the complexities, challenges, and opportunities that Middle East presents to the United States? Whose world view includes maintaining the United States position as an economic and military Superpower? Whose world view includes the refusal to have the United States regulated into a submissive subject of Communist China? Whose positions best comport with McCain’s on fighting the global war on terrorism? Who has the ability to raise $500 million for a Presidential campaign? Who has the ability to selflessly campaign for candidates to ensure that we return the Congress to CONSERVATIVE majority? Who has the temerity to stand up, articulate, and fight for the American vision of freedom and prosperity to nations like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, China, the European Union, and Russia on the global geopolitical front? Who has the cajones to reform Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security so that they will remain solvent for NOT ONLY THE BABY BOOMERS, but for also for later generations like the Gen X’ers, the Echo Boomers, and the Gen Y’ers?

Who has the trans-formative vision to understand that we need a wholesale comprehensive review of our public educational systems to better position our children for opportunities in the competitive global marketplace? Who will fight tooth and nail to keep our military the best equipped and prepared fighting force in the world? Who understands that we need an economy that is based on renewable energy instead of one based on oil?

Who is pro life, pro God, pro guns, pro traditional marriage, pro family, and pro protecting our borders from the onslaught of illegal immigrantion? Who is the man for the future of the GOP? More importantly, who is the leader of the future American Conservative Movement? Who can help keep Virginia’s 13 electoral votes in Republican hands? Who can make electoral inroads for Republicans in places like Florida, New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, California, and Massachusetts, while running up the score in places like Alabama, North Carolina, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Texas, and Oklahoma?

Who?
Virginia Congressman Eric Cantor for Vice-President.
McCain/Cantor 2008. The future is now.

BTW, I do not consider Fred to be lefty. He was a fiscal conservative with a moderate streak a mile wide (CFR, global warming, crime, illegal immigration), who became more conservative, apparently as time passed. My beef with the Fredheads was that they were portraying him as some rock ribbed Reaganite, and that he was not.

All that said, Fred is head and antlers above Rudy McRomney, he just didn’t campaign like it.
