Hillary Goes Out With a Whimper
The Atlantic ^ | August 27, 2008 | Joshua Green

Posted on 08/27/2008 5:17:27 AM PDT by Zakeet

When she first campaigned for a New York Senate seat, Hillary Clinton earned the nickname "The Laundry Lady." Last night's speech was a reminder why. Clinton didn't come close to injecting the shot of energy that the Democratic convention desperately needs, but neither did she do anything to damage Obama's campaign. Instead, she wrapped up her historic candidacy with a whimper—an understated, buzzword-laden speech that held about as much passion as a Wednesday night city council meeting.

Characteristically, Clinton seemed to want to do several things at once, and as a result did none of them especially well. She made the necessary appeal for unity; she took some shots at John McCain; and she thanked—rather perfunctorily and without much feeling, it seemed to me—the many supporters of hers who have caused so much hand-wringing and consternation. But it was hard to come away thinking that anything significant had changed.

Clinton didn't need to match the intensity of Dennis Kucinich, who, earlier in the evening, hopped and screamed like a meth-addled Smurf. And she rose above the rote fare of the state legislator-types who fill the endless daytime hours. But true sentiment toward Obama was hard to detect. Clinton does magnanimity like Robin Williams does understatement: it doesn't come naturally.

[Snip]

The bio film that introduced her pretended to be a mawkish tear-jerker, and then cleverly broke into a Van Halen riff. The crowd was fired up. But the excitement faded quickly. Clinton didn't seem angry or betrayed or entitled or any of the things that critics have attributed to her—she seemed merely unenthused, and so did the audience, his crowd and hers. Two minutes after she left the stage someone could have shouted across the arena and been heard on the other side.

Most notable to me was what she didn't say:

"I release my delegates and ask that they join me in voting for Barack Obama."

I just watched his performance on Youtube. Even scarier than his histrionics is the reaction of the people in the crowd, which gives one an insight into the intelligence and personality necessary to be a Democrat.

She sounded like Nurse Ratched at her finest. My main thought was after listening to her past prime time speech: good riddance and be gone! The Clintons have inflicted themselves on America for too long now.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus

“...meth addled Smurf” might be the best line
of the whole campaign.

The orange pantsuit is the same color as some houses that can be found on the south side of town.

That pantsuit doesn’t do much to flatter her figure

Most published pictures of HRC when she was the Dem's darling showed her above the waist only. Though not overweight, she has a very strange shape. The DBM has incredible powers and choosing what people get to see is one of them.

Similarly, when McCain was acting against Bush, they seldom showed the left side of his face. As the Republican he's out of favor now, so unflattering pictures are the MSM's choice.

LOL funny!

That is a really ugly suit Hillary is wearing.

That is a very flattering picture of Chelsea. Money can do wonders for your looks.

That lady (Hillary) is grumpy and angry because:

Her husband broke her heart a long time ago because he was a conceited, insecure, unfaithful, dishonest man. His embarrassing puerile sexual diddling in the Oval Office was in large part why she failed to receive the nomination.

Politics became their life along the way. They eat it, sleep it and breathe it - and yet, even with all the power, the perks and the money - there is still an emptiness that no amount of new pantsuits, new hairdos, manicures, pedicures, big houses, dainty gourmet foods or sex partners will fill.

The adoring faces of “her” supporters by the millions do not satisfy her.

Because the Love of God is what we all need, including the Clintons, and nothing else in this world will suffice. The sad fact is that God is ready and willing to love us, and to comfort us, if only we will simply ASK Him and take it from there with Him. - Lord, help all of us to do that.

The more I watch and read about this convention, the more I'm coming to the conclusion that in their heart of hearts, the Democrat elite know the people have nominated a dud and that they are going to lose big-time to McCain.

First. The orange is the color adopted by the PUMAs.

Second. Note she ended her speech with how much she loved America.

Take that michelle.

Wow,

Freerepublic has really fallen. I really enjoyed the intellectual conversations that used to grace this site. Even if I did not agree with them. I respected the comments. Now it is just personal attacks and character assasinations.

You can do better than this.

And have you noticed how when McCain and his wife Cindy are together, the photographers and even the TV cameramen do their best to keep her out of the frame. Rarely do you see shots of them together. The contrast of Cindy to Michelle and Hillary is striking. That is why the media must not show it.

Oh please, these kinds of thread have ALWAYS been on FR. I’ve been here daily since 1998. This is nothing new. The intellectual conversations still take place, you just have to separate a little more chaff from the wheat than you used to. Comes with the exploding population (and increase in the number of trolls) we’ve experienced.
