Now, statehouses work very simply: a member approaches his colleagues and asks them them to vote for his bill. Some comply, some do not. Some ask, "Is it a good bill?" and some don't.

This is SO true! I've seen our state legislature pass some boneheaded stuff and can only ask: What were they thinking?

The answer is: They weren't.

"..Now, let's get this straight: here we have one of the leading university law journals in the country, one widely cited and read. Entire careers in legal analysis and scholarship have been founded on appearances in the Review, including some that have led to the highest courts in the country. Yet here's an individual who, as editor, could easily place his own work in the journal -- standard practice, nothing at all wrong with it. But he fails to do so. And the explanation? There's none that I've heard. We can go even farther than that, to say that there is no explanation that makes the least rational sense..."

Why did he not publish? The simple explanation, he sucks and you can't risk getting caught with ghostwritten material there.

(A good slogan could be made of this: "You can't vote present in the Oval Office." I hereby commend it to the McCain campaign.)

Where did you get this? How did it get attributed to Hugh Downs?

Anyway, I found this item absolutely incredible:

“Back at school, Obama got himself named editor of the Harvard Law Review. This is a signal achievement, no question about it. The kind of thing that would be mentioned about a person for the rest of his life, as has been the case with Obama. But then... he writes nothing for the journal.

Now, let’s get this straight: here we have one of the leading university law journals in the country, one widely cited and read. Entire careers in legal analysis and scholarship have been founded on appearances in the Review, including some that have led to the highest courts in the country. Yet here’s an individual who, as editor, could easily place his own work in the journal — standard practice, nothing at all wrong with it. But he fails to do so. And the explanation? There’s none that I’ve heard.”

...but never a career screwup. (I except Jimmy Carter, whose errors arose from sincere, misguided goodwill.)

Anybody who's spent any time looking at the his dissing of the Shah would come to a very different conclusion. Carter was hardly a complete bumbling fool, his actions w/r/t pre-revolution Iran speak of a very deep corruption.

a lot of truth in that.

Well written. I especially like the left/right/up/8th dimensional move analogy.

Wasn’t written by Hugh Downes.

It was written by J.R.Dunn in the American Thinker

Obama is not so much a flake as a delicate flower. He has been nurtured all his life by those around him. He has come to believe his own press. I firmly believe that he would wilt (panic) if a real crisis emerged. Unfortunately, if the time comes, the decisions will be in his pay grade.

Obama was elevated to Editor of the Harvard Law Review for reasons nobody will say.

Obama won his first race in Chicago by disqualifying his opponent’s petitions.

Obama won his race for the Senate when somebody leaked his opponent’s sealed and salacious divorce proceedings.

Obama won his primary by having the same people vote in caucuses all over the country, over and over again. Otherwise, he would have lost to Hillary.

Obama had never won anything on the up-and-up. He will not win the Presidency, either.

We follow Obama down to Springfield, where as a state legislator, he voted "present" over 120 times. What this means, as far as I've been able to discover, is that he voted "present" nearly as much as he voted "yes" or "no

Doesn't have a point of view, knows not where he's going to. Obama is the Nowhere Man, devoid of any convictions.

Please correct this posting to show that the author actually is J. R. Dunn, and please credit the American Thinker website for publishing the article.

(It's unfair and unethical to attribute such a fine article to somebody other than the actual author. May even be a violation of copyright law.)

Think how close we were to a Kerry presidency... Yikes.

I want to think McCain will win by a landslide. But I will simply be satisfies if he wins.

We all need to get to work!
