DENVER (CBS) ― Michelle Obama's big speech at the Democratic convention Monday night was being anticipated not just for what she'd say -- but for what she'd wear.
The would-be first lady's fashion flair is already grabbing attention -- she's being closely watched as a possible budding fashion icon -- and most observers the outfit she selected for the big event clicked.
Among those whose keen eyes were trained on Michelle is Laura Schwartz, a former adviser to the wife of former Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, Teresa Heinz Kerry. Schwartz also worked in the Clinton White House.
In the convention hall Tuesday, Schwartz told Early Show co-anchor Harry Smith Michelle "succeeded. (She did) exactly what she was going for, because today, we're talking about the message more than just the overall bling."
Schwartz was guessing Michelle would wear a dress, despite talk she'd wear a suit. "She looks fabulous in dresses," Schwartz explained, "and you know she's going to wear something she looks great in, that she feels confident in. And that's what we saw. And she pulled it off very, very well."

She looked fine (except that by golly! that woman has one muscular neck) — but she said “See” about a million times. It occurred to me to turn it into a drinking game — take a shot when Michelle says See! — but then decided I’d just be an angry drunk.
She won’t be going back to that hospital I would bet.
She will run for Senate.
That dress looked absolutely horrible on her. The fabric and fit are completely wrong for her body type and she has made a habit of wearing similar dresses. If she makes first lady, I certainly hope that someone gives her a ‘what not to wear’ makeover...other than her choice in dresses...she is IMO very very pretty.
As long as the libs are talking fashion, why couldn’t they equip their candidate’s wife with a dress that fit properly in the bodice so that the it didn’t have so many wrinkles when she was at the podium. And maybe some fashion tape or bra strap keepers so that her bra strap, which shows clearly in the picture, stayed hidden. The big broach behind the mike was distracting. As she moved sometimes you saw it, sometimes you didn’t. And the color was unfortunate—on some t.v. screens it showed up as the same color as the background.
If they can’t handle details like that, just think of the mess when they presume to run everyone’s health care and carbon footprint.
John’s wife will hit a homerun—and with a lot more class.
C’mon now, they’re just trying to reinvent Camelot.

Michelle can’t help it. It’s in the eyes. She can’t hide the anger in her eyes with a nice dress.
That and the finger wag she does. She clearly can’t help doing that either because you have to think some kind of image consultant would have tried to train it out of her by now...

I was thinking the same thing. She looked very Kmart or Dress Barn to me. How disapointing. Does anyone know what message she was sending by having her bra strap showing. Could it be Hi I’m very tacky and don’t know how to dress well like Laura Bush. And what message was being sent to all of America by the fact that she has no control over her children. Could it be that the children are actually being raised by a nanny and don’t behave well for their mother. With her high powered $371,000.00 per year hospital vice president position she can’t have much time for her two little punishments OOPS I mean children.

After the intro shot of Teddy’s big pre-speech video (the shot of the ocean lapping at the shore), all I could think of was Mary Jo and all the other buried faux-pas of the Kennedys.
Did she wear one of her $600 pair of earrings too? Accessories make the clothes, doncha know.
