I've never been a part of the “manicure/pedicure” set, but having wrestled for 10 years from elementary through high school, I keep my fingernails cut very, very short out of force of habit. Likewise, having played soccer for 16 years, followed by 10 years of active duty in the Army, foot hygiene is of paramount importance to me.

I've found the small polishing wheels for the Dremel tool do a fantastic job of maintaining a neat, clean and lightly polished look to one's nails.

I figure there's nothing girly about doing your nails as long as a power tool is involved.
