Six Words Michelle Obama Didn't Say

Anyone else notice that Michelle didn't Thank her Mom in her speech?
Didn't hear any of the pundits comment on this last night.
All it would have taken was six words, Thank You Mom, I Love You.
Opportunity of a lifetime to honor the person who raised and cared for you, gave you a great video intro, and you missed it.
Shame on you Michelle.

Everything with these people is about political advantage. And let's not overlook earlier this summer Obama couldn't pay a visit to the troops in Iraq and Germany not because of any scheduling conflicts but because he couldn't use them as political props. This is the guy who is running for Commander In Chief. On the first night of their party's convention, the Iraq War was mentioned solely as a "mistake" and not as a proud American feat of arms. These people are heavily invested in defeat and in tearing America down. You can't have a strong country without a strong military and America can't be a great country without values. Did it look like the Democrats know what American values are? Not to me.

Well stated. Apparently, God played no part in the Obamas’ rise in riches and position.
Wait, if they were to acknowledge God’s part in their promotions, they would turn bitter for things not being even better. And they’re trying to paint themselves as happy, not bitter.
That’s why they can’t mention God’s role.
Phew, glad I figured that out.

The Democrats are self-centered. They don't inspire people to join them. I can only wait for the parade of the victims they have to show us the rest of the week.

President Bush's wife Laura delivered a similar speech on behalf of her husband at the Republican convention in 2004. Like it or not, these family tributes are aimed at women voters.

” Its a dumb thread. She paid tribute to both her parents.”
Respect your opinion that she did based on the reference in response 15.
With all the hype of “humanizing, showing how she and Barry are like us, I was watching /listening for the simpler things.
My take is she missed the opportunity to very directly speak to her mother, who is living, and was in the audience with by using six words.
“Thank You Mom, I Love You “
Call me old fashioned, but that’s what I would have done, and I think there are a few others who would have done the same.
P.S. The great thing about FR is we can state our opinions, see what others think, and learn from each other. Sometimes that will mean we agree, other times disagree. I think that’s where we are at on this topic.

She was too busy trying to make her dad Obama’s dad. Obama’s family is not the portrait they want out there, so MO had to try and portray her family as Obama’s — a strong black father being the key.
The 4 words MO didn’t use “I am an American”

Agreed. Mentioning your mother in the audience, I would think is the ultimate form of tribute. Six simple words in a speech full of poll tested platitudes. Its not like Michelle was pressed for time last night.

Another oversight? And her Dad and not Mom who was alive and there in the audience? Here's another thing that struck me. In her opening introduction, she mentioned her brother several times as being the big influence on her life. Most people would say their mother would be the most important person to them. But her father received secondary mention. And largely because he was a victim of multiple sclerosis. If you look at all these little things, they add up.

If anything, Michelle’s mom has a meaner look on her face than Michelle. And it would appear that the youngest obama daughter is following in that vein.

She did look uptight at the beginning, but did smile a little at the end.
My read is that she was closer to her Dad, and brother.

Its like Mom wasn't the main influence on her life. Every child has a favorite parent, that's understandable. I look like my mother - I'm a man and I know who I was close to for much of my life. So it appears Michelle and Mom weren't that close in terms of family.

She and her husband are brilliant orators and actors in spite of the "bumbled" good night (which needed more rehearsing). Unfortunately, much of the American electorate has the the soap opera mentality to think the characters portrayed are the characters themselves.
It reminds me of how people went crazy over the death of Princess Diana, who had never done anything but smile, wave, look pretty, have an affair and walk through a land mine area one day yet barely noticing the passing of Mother Teresa at this time, who had truly given her life to helping people.

We're a society obsessed by mere looks. And beautiful people aren't necessarily all that beautiful. True beauty is beauty of the soul. A lot of people who don't have movie star looks are beautiful but we don't stop to see it.

If anything, Michelles mom has a meaner look on her face than Michelle. I wouldn't characterize the look as mean. But the scowl throughout the speech was clear, sustained, and noticeable in its incongruity with the moment. I'm surprised yours is the first comment on it (at least in this thread. Haven't read many.)
I don't recall a time I've ever seen parents watching a child receive an honor or perform on stage where they're not positively beaming. Even allowing for personality differences that might preclude the ubiquitous ear to ear grin most parents display at a mere piano recital, where was the glow? This was like a Marie Barone Slow Burn.

Its hard for a parent to take pride when they're neglected by their children. In a society that believes in nothing, "auld acquaintance will be soonest forgot." How true.

I started this thread because something wasn’t adding up for me with the whole supposed humanize theme. I particularly missed hearing the 6 words.
The visuals, as evidenced by several comments could be the topic of longer discussions.
There’s more to this story that we probably won’t ever hear, but suffice it to say at least we can share our opinions with each through this forum.

I don't think any one else will mention this. Its the little things that have a lasting impression upon people. Thanks for bringing it up.
