Sources: McCain May Announce VP Choice Before Friday
Fox News ^ | August 25, 2008

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain may announce his choice for a running mate earlier than expected, sources told FOX News on Monday.

McCain had previously said he would announce his vice presidential pick on Friday and would appear with that individual at a rally in Dayton, Ohio, following the announcement. Friday is McCain’s 72nd birthday.

But sources close to McCain’s campaign told FOX News that his decision may come sooner than that — possibly on Thursday, when Barack Obama accepts the Democratic nomination at Invesco field in Denver, Colo.

McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds diminished the news.

“I wouldn’t much weight into reports that there are windows of possibility,” he said.

Several names have come up repeatedly as McCain’s possible running mate, including former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge and, perhaps, Democrat-turned-independent Joe Lieberman of Connecticut. Also named is Gen. David Petraeus, the incoming head of Central Command.

But that’s assuming you trust McCain to do the right thing. I don’t.

I trust him a percent more than I trust Obama. With all of the problems we have with McCain, the man was tortured and bled for this country. I also believe that the people he surrounds himself with will be far more trustworthy than the people Obama surrounds himself with. The Presidency isn't an island. In this day, it is more like a board of directors. Obama is likely to put someone like Bill Ayers in charge of the military, McCain has always supported people like Petraeus. Obama joined the crowd calling him Betrayus. No matter how much I dislike what McCain has done, it seems pretty clear to me who is better qualified to be Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces.

...also (I know this sounds strange) but this will get McCain out of the Senate. Bills don’t originate with the President, they originate in the legislative branch. Assuming that Napolitano doesn’t override Arizona’s practice of having a special election for vacancies, it will give us one more opportunity to fill a seat with a more Conservative voice.

Oh I understand and respect all that you have posted. For me, it really depends on who he picks as VP.

That is my key factor on if I actually support him or if I simply hold my nose and pull the lever.

In war as in life, it is often necessary when some cherished scheme has failed, to take up the best alternative open, and if so, it is folly not to work for it with all your might.

I find it ironic you're blasting Bush yet praising McCain. Bush's failure to secure our borders and you're supporting McCain? You've had your head under an immigration rock for the past eight years and now decide to pull it out and tout McCain over Bush? Good Lord in Heaven, you're so all over the map, not even viagra could help you control your spew.

Oh, and for the record, you apologist nimrod, I have called Bush to task on tons of stuff, especially immigration. But facts certainly don't work with emotional, hysterical girls like you, huh?

So before you go preaching to those of us who doubt McCain, check your own obviously confused and utterly lost mind.

Yep. Guess its all a waiting game now. But seriously, how much influence does the VP really have? Well, Dick Cheney not included. :) I just don’t see McCain as a ‘share the spotlight’ kind of guy.

The key about VP (Besides being the President of the Senate and a tie-breaking vote) is (s)he will define where the party goes in 2012 and beyond.

“Carly Fiorina.” No political experience. Did a lousy job for HP. Ugly as a turd.

I can only assume you went to the same college as Keith Olbermann or Howard Stern to learn how to craft such incredibly witty, incisive and intelligent political commentary.

Dude, don’t forget, Rosalyn is on our side. We may disagree on this, but we are in the same foxhole.

I heard the first 2 from a Repub commentator on FOX. The last was from having seen her pic.

She has none of the skills necessary to be VP.

Lacks political experience...I agree.

Lousy job at HP...there are two sides to that story.

Ugly as a turd... Sorry we have decidedly different views on beauty. Not to mention different views on what constitutes civil discourse.

Well I'm happy to give you my knee pads since you've obviously got McCain's tip in your mouth.

What you clearly don't get is being true to your principles. Its jokers like you who got us where we are today- RINO John McCain for President.

But keep up with your oh so witty snark, k? Oh, I'll send you some Midol along with the knee pads. Your hysterical rants make Hillary Clinton looks sane. Sorta makes sense, though, since she has bigger kahunas than you.

Excellent point. And its my wish that its someone who is far removed from the DC spin machine (and GOP machine too). My fear with this, however, is it becomes a ‘guilt by association’ thing- if McCain flops, then his VP is doomed. Look at how McCain is keeping distance from Bush. It really is a tough call. Is there one VP candidate who all conservatives will unite behind?
