Hillary Clinton will pledge her support and call for unity but don’t believe a word of it
The Times ^ | August 26, 2008 | Gerard Baker

Tonight on stage in Denver Hillary Clinton, one of the most accomplished practitioners of the fine art of political deception, will pull off the biggest stunt of her career so far.

In her speech to the Democratic convention Mrs Clinton will have warm words for Barack Obama. She will pledge herself to work for his election in November. She will urge her campaign supporters and the millions who voted for her in the primary to bury their differences and throw their support behind the nominee. She will, no doubt, describe herself as humbled.

Don’t believe a word of it.

There may be strenuous efforts to keep the tensions between the Clinton and Obama camps below the surface here in Denver, but they are as raw and powerful as they have ever been.

There has been loud grumbling among the Clinton team about the way that Mr Obama went about picking his vice-presidential nominee last weekend. They think that it was disrespectful of him not to have considered Mrs Clinton more seriously for the job.

They are furious that he failed to consult Bill Clinton, the man who ran twice successfully for the presidency, for advice on the pick.

But most of all, many of them still have not come to terms with the arithmetical reality that they lost.

To be fair, it is not simply naked personal ambition that lies behind the rancour.

I really think Hillary’s tired of watching Obama screwing up the campaign. I’m watching the convention tonight, and it’s clear — Obama-mania peaked in April or May.....too bad the election’s in November!

[ They think that it was disrespectful of him not to have considered Mrs Clinton more seriously for the job. ]

“Disrespectful” is an understatement. We have seen only the beginnings of Obama’s passive-aggressiveness.

Wouldn’t it be great if McCain announced a female choice for VP at 3am the day Hillary speaks? Now THAT would make Operation Chaos seem like a firecracker in comparison. Ah, if only Big John would do it!

thank you. very interesting.

the problema is—it’s very difficult for many people to think of the clintons as victims!

likewise, i wonder if mccain will discover a few tricks?

The latest update includes two days of interviewing following Obama’s selection of Sen. Joe Biden as his vice presidential running mate, and neither day showed an improved performance for Obama. Thus, Obama does not appear to have gotten the same type of immediate “vice presidential bounce” as have presidential candidates in recent years.

Picking a woman as VP would probably be a great boost for John McCain...Not sure if he will though, he’d have to convince a lot of the party pro’s...

IF he does though, the woman should have a business/executive background, be smart as a whip, be able to outtalk and outdraw BHO and be able to swing the women’s vote to John McCain...If she has a military background or State Dept experience, that’s a plus...

By Obama picking a loser for running mate he has torpoe’d his campaign before it even started...Only the dim diehards could vote for that ticket...

Oh perfect...if he can’t have Lieberman, he can pick Madelline Albright.....Female?, State Department experience...

Oh, heck — no, he just needs someone with debate and Washington experience ... V.P Helen Thomas !!

“They are furious that he failed to consult Bill Clinton, the man who ran twice successfully for the presidency, for advice on the pick. “

They are furious that he failed to consult Bill Clinton, the impeached, disbarred, rapist who ran twice successfully for the presidency, never getting more than 50% of the vote for advice on the pick.

Much better.

Why can’t Hillary just speak? Why does she have to shout everything...she sounds to fake, like she’s covering something up.

Its the bottom of the 5th, and the Dems are at bat. So far McCain has pitched a no hitter.

Right now the Dem team has 2 strike outs, with pinch hitter Joe bin Biden coming up to bat.

Will bin Biden shake the pitcher? Will McCain use his famous curve ball or his "knuckle" ball? I bet on the change up.Joe bin Biden is going to be suckered into swinging like a barn door in the wind.

And the Hildebeast cheering section is absolutely silent.

Obama is in the bull pen, working on his illegal spit ball pitch.

Assistant Coach BJ Clinton was last seen going under the bleachers with some blond and John Edwards.

The Clintons are doing all they need to do so that when B. Hussein loses in November, no one will be able to say that Hillary cost him the election. And, in 2012....guess who will be the Dem nominee?

On FOX a short time ago, Greta VanSusteren said the word is out that McCain is going to move up his VEEP Announcement date a couple of days.

I’m betting he WILL nominate a woman.

Your Post #11 perfectly describes Heather Wilson, Republican Congresswoman from New Mexico.

She’d be a great VEEP. She is a tough cookie. I’ve watched her on TV and she stands up to Chris Matthews and all the liberal media.
