Renewing America’s Promise. Millions of Americans are struggling to get by. The failed policies of the last eight years have betrayed the country’s values and left an economy out of balance. Barack Obama believes a strong economy is unattainable with a weak middle class. Tuesday’s Convention program will feature the voices of Americans who share Barack’s concerns and strongly support his detailed economic plan to grow the economy, create jobs, restore fairness, and expand opportunity.

Senator Hillary Clinton will be the headline prime-time speaker and former Virginia Governor Mark Warner will deliver the keynote address on Tuesday night. Pay Equity pioneer Lilly Ledbetter will also address the Convention on Tuesday.

Other Tuesday speakers will include: Governor Brian Schweitzer of Montana; Governor Deval Patrick of Massachusetts; Governor Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas; Governor Janet Napolitano of Arizona; Governor Joe Manchin of West Virginia; Governor Jim Doyle of Wisconsin; Governor Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania; Governor Ted Strickland of Ohio; Governor David Paterson of New York; Governor Chet Culver of Iowa; Senator Bob Casey, Jr., of Pennsylvania; Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont; former Secretary of Energy and Transportation Federico Peña; House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer; House Democratic Caucus Chair Rahm Emanuel; Representative Xavier Becerra (D-CA), Assistant to the Speaker of the House; and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Chair Chris Van Hollen, who will use his time to showcase his top candidates for change.

Representatives Nydia Velazquez (D-NY), Linda Sanchez (D-CA), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Mike Honda (D-CA), California Controller John Chiang, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards, Change To Win’s Anna Burger, and AFL-CIO President John Sweeney will also speak.

Wednesday, August 27 – Securing America’s Future. Barack Obama offers a new, tough foreign policy that is neither Republican nor Democratic, but is a strong, smart American foreign policy to make our country more secure and advance our interests in the world. Wednesday night’s Convention program will feature the voices of Americans who share Barack’s vision of making America stronger and safer.

The headline prime-time speaker on Wednesday will be Barack Obama’s Vice Presidential Nominee.

Featured speakers will include: Former President Bill Clinton; former Senator Tom Daschle; Governor Bill Richardson and Senators Evan Bayh, Joe Biden, John Kerry and Jay Rockefeller. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Convention home state Senator Ken Salazar, House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn, and Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL) along with Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. Representative Patrick Murphy (D-PA) and Iraq War veteran Tammy Duckworth will lead a tribute honoring those who give so much to secure our nation’s future – veterans, active duty military and their families.

Thursday, August 28 – Change You Can Believe In. On Thursday night, the DNCC will throw open the doors of the Convention and move to INVESCO Field at Mile High so that more Americans can be a part of the fourth night of the Convention as Barack Obama accepts the Democratic nomination. Obama will communicate the urgency of the moment, highlight the struggles Americans are facing and call on Americans to come together to change the course of our nation.

Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, Jr. will address the Convention on Thursday night.

Additional details of the program to precede Barack Obama’s acceptance speech will be announced later this week.

Looks like the usual lineup of victims and rageaholics. This will appeal to the Code Pink/ Reverend Wright crowd, but who else? I guess they threw in the towel on the youth vote again.

Checking in for the festivities.

The butter for the popcorn is melting and the level of entertainment should be high.

Yahoo just sponsered a forum of black people, Tavis Miley being the most notable of the crew, telling us why we need a black president.

It was interesting because one silly looking man kept using the word niggerising and the man sitting next to him had to admonish him that everyone was watching this show and they needed to becareful in their speech so people did’nt misunderstand the message.

Did anyone catch the new ad Texas Pubbies are running about Obama’s half-bro? They show Obambi’s house and says how can Obama say he will take care of our kids when he can’t even take care of his own family. It was pretty good. Was shown on Fox earlier this morning.

What a TRAITOR JIM LEACH is!!

~~~~
Jim Leach endorses Obama
"It's been a very difficult thing for me because I've never endorsed a Democrat before...but sometimes in life you come to a juncture where it's very clear the national interest trumps party discipline," former Iowa Congressman Jim Leach said in a noontime interview with Radio Iowa. Read more below.
Two updates below provide links to audio of Leach talking about his decision.
Leach Former Iowa Congressman Jim Leach -- a Republican -- endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama this morning.
Leach, as you may recall, lost his bid for re-election in 2006 after three decades representing portions of eastern Iowa in congress.
Leach was considered a "moderate" Republican and was a backer of campaign finance reform. Leach did not accept campaign contributions from political action committees.
Leach became a professor at his alma mater -- Princeton -- and then was asked to be the interim director of Harvard University's Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School of Government when its director left to run for the U.S. Senate.
The institute's new director is to start September 1, 2008 and Leach will return to Princeton for the fall semester. Leach's wife has contributed the maximum amount allowed to Obama's campaign.
Of additional note: Leach shared an office with Dick Cheney when Cheney -- and Leach -- worked for Donald Rumsfeld in D.C. decades ago. Cheney spoke at a campaign fundraiser for Leach in Cedar Rapids in 2003.
*snip*
UPDATE: Radio Iowa story, with Leach comments. Includes 3 1/2 minutes MP3 file with Leach's comments at the beginning of a conference call arranged by the Obama campaign.
UPDATE II: Radio Iowa interview with Leach (7 min MP3)
*snip* Update IV: by 1:50 p.m. --
six hours after the story broke -- the McCain campaign issued the following statement:
"It’s rather ironic that someone like Jim Leach, a person who placed such a strong focus on campaign finance issues, would be endorsing the first presidential candidate since Watergate to skirt the public financing program in the general election......."
Just shows ya: moderates are just as bad as iberals.
I managed to go a whole day without FReeping, and somehow survived. Is it just the volume of traffic or do we need to lighten up on posting pics or something?
“*Show video of white grandmother being heckled by black panhandler.
*Talk about how whites infected black community with AIDS and cocaine/crack addictions.
*Talk about plan for reparations to descendants of slaves.”
I’ll add 1 & 3 to the list. #2 will be covered under the “Wright Retrospective”
I am not sure. It seems worse when 'big' events are taking place.
When Hillary stopped her campaign, it crashed.
When she gave her endorsement, it crashed.
Today it is sluggish. That makes trying to post 'current' activities nearly impossible, as it takes a while for the post box to open. Then, it takes a while for the preview and the actual posting to show up.
This is a recurring problem that seems to afflict FR whenever live events are going on.
(I have high-speed cable, so most web pages, even ones with heavy graphics and videos, load almost instantaneously. FR loads like it is on 28.8 dial-up.)
