Liberal Writer Saw Biden as a Disaster Last Year

Now that Barack Obama has chosen Joe Biden to be his running mate, it will be interesting to see how some journalists will distance themselves from their own scathing opinions of Biden in the past. One such case is that of Jonathan Chait, The New Republic editor, who was very downbeat on Biden in a Los Angeles Times article published on February 4, 2007. Of course, back then it was "safe" to be honest about Joe Biden since it looked like his presidential bid was going nowhere. The very title of Chait's article, "Joe Biden’s just a barrel of gaffes," explains the problems the Obama campaign is going to have with the new vice-presidential pick. Back then Chait was very blunt about Biden's problems as a candidate:

The fringe benefit of Biden as VP candidate is that he will be providing us with a lot of comedy entertainment starting with "Barack America."

“Joe Biden’s just a barrel of gaffes,”

How about an Over/Under of 10 on the number of undisputed gaffes we get from Joe between now and November?

I’m taking the Over.

And Biden has said many favorable things about John McCain over the years. He has praised McCain’s abilities and independence from Bush, etc. I think Joe will show up in a number of McCain campaign ads.

So, is he any less of a disaster this year?

***

Here's the thing about the Biden choice: is he made of teflon because of the awful tragedy that struck his family years ago? Is his son bulletproof because of it? I saw a picture in the Post today of him being sworn in by his son's hospital bed. Was it a sick, pimping photo-op, or just the circumstance at the time?

He's Catholic, that much was said to us in Post article.

He needs to be held to his record, not his personality, because the argument goes there, the might invoke the self-righteous "victim" defense/offense.

And finally, I can't find it within myself to criticize the man personally, simply because of what he's been through.

Professionally, now, that's different. He and everyone else is fair game, professionally.

It should be a blast listening to Rush tmw. I heard Rush say Friday that he would be ecstatic if Biden was picked as the VP.

I just checked whois.net for that domain name but don’t know how to check what other domains the registrant also owns. It presumably is a case of domain squatting but it was a good guess for Dec 2006.

That’s the thing about liberals, though. They always, in the inimitable words of Ann Coulter, ‘trot out the victims’.
Biden - wife and daughter dead, sons gravely injured (ultimately recovered)
Edwards - wife dying, son dead
Kerry - grains of rice implanted in otherwise museum-grade behind
Hillary - embarassed/shamed by spouse over decades
Kucinich - genetically robbed/pillaged
Kennedy - slain brothers, dead nephews, son with amputated leg, son with amputated brain

If it weren’t for the infidelity of Edwards, I’m pretty sure he’d be on the ticket only because of the dying Elizabeth. I’m pretty sure that’s how he reasoned it in his mind - Dying wife ‘08, Grieving widower ‘12.

Don’t trouble yourself about not being able to find it in yourself to criticize Biden personally. I’m not burdened by grace and class, as you are ;-) In as much as the Dems are concerned, I, being rude, crude and completely crass, have you covered. I’m not sure you want that cover ;-), but you, FRiend, have it.

Biden as VP nominee proves that God loves the GOP.

Biden as VP nominee proves that God loves the GOP.

That was my first thought when I received my text message on FR Friday night. It also proves that God has a sense of humor and demands humility.....as in McCain the GOP candidate.

“Here’s the thing about the Biden choice: is he made of teflon because of the awful tragedy that struck his family years ago? “

I think it is partially what made John Edwards so slippery for so long. Losing his son plus Elizabeth’s cancer.

Biden deserves kudos for raising those boys on his own.
He has one boy in the service, and rightly supported funding for the troops (putting him at odds with Obama).

However -
The guy has an unstoppable mouth.
He will be his own worst enemy, and the press is going to have a difficult time squelching the mountains of material that will inevitably fly out of the man.

It certainly is going to be an interesting fall.

What’s great is there is absolutely no enthusiasm for Biden among Obama’s moonbat core. Joe is just another old white man who voted for the war in Iraq. Notice how they are trying to paint him as a “disruptor”. Get it kids? He’s a radical just like Barry!

But, but, the Chosen One chose Joe. And the Chosen One is infallible right?

The fringe isn’t buying it. And SS Obama is taking on more water.
