Since the Sin-ate has a higher retention rate than the Soviet Politburo ever did, I'll stick with the FOUNDING FATHERS. More brilliant than you or I since they lived UNDER TYRANNY.

80% of Senators get retained, compared to 90% of congressman in "the people's body", the House of Representatives.

Yes, things were soooo much better in 1789 than are now. How foolish we were to ever mess with the ORIGINAL constitutuion as ratified in 1789. Just think how GREAT things would be if we could go back to only what was in the ORIGINAL constitution:

John Kerry should immediately be sworn in as VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, as the ORIGINAL constitution of 1789 makes it CLEAR that the runner-up in a presidential contest automatically becomes Vice President. Gotta remove Dick Cheney. James Madison's 1789 text says so. You wouldn't want to argue with James Madison, would you?

Only wealthy white, male, property owners should be "allowed" to vote, as was the law when OUR FOUNDERS ratified the ORIGINAL consitution of 1789

We could have legalized slavery in 2008, our our ORIGINAL constittution of 1789 explicted said slavery was legal that before some pesky changes in the 1860s

Bill Clinton should be allowed to run for a third term, as was the case during the days of George Washington and the ORIGINAL 1789 constition. During the 1940s some darn Republicans CHANGED the original consitution and OUR FOUNDERS wishes because FDR wouldn't go away. Tsk tsk.

We can ban all guns nationwide under the text of the ORIGINAL 1789 constitution, since the founders included NO right to self-protection in 1789. A couple years later they CHANGED the constitution and created this thing called the second amendment.

We can have a police state in America like communist China and arrest and jail innocent people for any reason. After all, the ORIGINAL 1789 constitution DID NOT include rights against unreasonable Searches and seizures; warrants; Indictments; Due process; Self-incrimination; Double jeopardy; eminent Domain; fair and speedy public trial, Notice of accusations, confronting one's accuser, Subpoenas, Right to council, and right to trial by jury when our founding fathers ratified the original constitution. That was all added two years later in 1791 by this document called The Bill of Rights.

Congress would be allowed to vote themselves a pay raise whenever they wanted and have it take effect immediately under the ORIGINAL 1789 consitution. Our founding fathers, of course, suggested the idea of limitations on congressional compensation, but in their infinite wisdom, they rejected the text at the time. It didn't happen until 1992 when the 27th amendment was ratified.

We could have a "national religion" of the United States and demand all government officials become members in order to serve in office under the ORIGINAL 1789 constitution. This is the still case in England (no Catholic hold power under law), and was pretty popular with some our English-born founders in 1789 due to the lopsidded number of Episcopians in this country at the time (the "natonal cathedral" in the United States is still episcoplian to this day). Unfortunately for our founders that had passed the 1789 text, those who did not want a national religion probitied the idea when they amendment the consitution in 1791 and specified "no religious test"

With the evil 17th amendment replaced with the far superior ORIGINAL 1789 constitution, we can have big-goverment choose a bunch of blue-blooded elites to reign over us for life in the "upper house" of parliment, just like they currently enjoy (well, actually, the citizens detest -- but pay no attention to that little detail) in countries overrun with socialism like Germany, Canada, and the U.K. Our very own House of Lords. For example, right now all those darned voters in these deep southern states keep electing PRINCIPLED CONSERVATIVES to office in defiance of their gerrymandered DemocRAT legislatures that have held power at the state level for 120 years and cannot be dislodged. Just think how much better things would be if we let crooked state legislatures on someone's payroll decide who runs our lives. Republican Tennesesee could have great socialist statemen appointed to reign over them, like say, Phil Bredensen and (D) Harold Ford (D). And I'm the Democrat controlled legislatures in Alabama, Missisppi, South Carolina, etc. can find good socialists to replace the people's choices of Jeff Sessons, Thad Cochran, Jim DeMint, etc. Those appointed Senators currently serving in the U.S. Senate like Bob Memendez are real winners, aren't they? We could use another 99 guys like him. Gotta love who the New Jersey state government appoints.

Did I mention NOBODY in the United States would be allowed to protest any of these policies that could be enacted nationwide if we had only the ORIGINAL 1789 constitution text as law? You, the right to freedom of speech, of the press, to petition, and to assemble wasn't guranteed in the ORIGINAL constitution our founders ratified in 1789 either. That was also changed by amendment in 1791.

Yes sir, there's little doubt the exact language that our founding fathers wrote into the 1789 constitution was flawless and should never ever be changed or tampered with. Things went downhill once they altered the ORIGINAL document our founders had passed, starting with that silly Bill of Rights thing.

::sigh:: If only we could have crooked politicians on someone's payroll pick our Senators for US. We can't trust individual citizens to make decisions over their lives, no sirree.
