Here is a Reuters image of Russians digging out a trench on Friday along the main road just outside the Georgian Black Sea port of Poti. Image Link

Looks like there is gonna be a showdown at Poti. Humanitarian Aid verses Russian entrenched roadblocks. From what I have read the US Destroyer has baby food, blankets and basic suplies.

Russia General Says Troops Will Remain in Georgia
By VOA News

A top Russian general says his forces will remain in parts of Georgia, and he accuses Tbilisi of preparing a new wave of attacks in South Ossetia.

Russian General Anatoly Nogovitsyn told reporters in Moscow Saturday that his country's forces will continue to patrol the Black Sea port city of Poti, as well as other areas that lie outside a designated security zone.

Nogovitsyn also warned that Russia could increase the size of its force in Georgia if the United States begins to help Georgia rebuild its military.

The action by the Russian military raises the question of how much control does President Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin have over the Russian military? They want respect as a major power, but they’re creating questions about themselves that is very, very embarassing for a wannabe major power. Not good.

You guys, I am not trying to be a “sky is falling” type of commenter, even though I am a worry wart, but this is escalatingn pretty quickly. I do think this is the beginning of WW3.

AP:Chaotic crowds of people and cars were jammed outside the city as Georgian police tried to control the mass return by setting up makeshift checkpoints — an ironic echo of the Russian checkpoints that had ringed the city a day earlier.

Ironic to AP.

In an interview with the AP, South Ossetian leader Eduard Kokoity indicated that ethnic Georgians will not be allowed to return to their homes in South Ossetia. "There is nothing left anymore" for them to come back to, he noted.

South Ossetia was 30% ethnic Georgian.
