Obama: Know where it’s really great to do business? (China's infrastructure vastly superior to us)

Well, as long as you forget about the oppressive Communist government and the lack of freedom and the Internet filtering and the re-education camps … China sounds really groovy:

Everybody’s watching what’s going on in Beijing right now with the Olympics. Think about the amount of money that China has spent on infrastructure. Their ports, their train systems, their airports are vastly the superior to us now, which means if you are a corporation deciding where to do business you’re starting to think, “Beijing looks like a pretty good option.”

Does Barack Obama understand the nature of the Beijing regime? The reason that the government can afford all of this spending is that they control the means of production and the wealth of the nation. They can confiscate what they want at will and spend it where they like. And in Beijing, they spent it where the cameras would be pointed.

Unfortunately, most of what the cameras see is just a facade, as Dale Franks points out at Q&O:

This is equivalent to believing that Mussolini made the trains run on time.

But you can't drink the water or breathe the air.

Many places still have holes in the ground for toilets (and I have seen this in an airport of a large city).

One can only worship “freely” in a government sanctioned church.

Many families cannot afford to keep their own children, especially those with medical needs, and are forced to leave these little ones on doorsteps in the dark of night.

But, they do have several shiny new sports stadiums, for which they dispossessed thousands and thousands of people, mostly poor, without just compensation.

Of course China is better than the US, because this is what Obama wants to turn the US into.

Ask foreign companies how well their investments in Russia are working out lately.

Schools that crumble in quakes, dams that fail, slave labor by political prisoners, industries that pollute so badly they had to be shuttered temporarily for the Olympics-—what is he thinking?

Is he so naive and inexperienced that he believes Chinese propaganda?

It is a little know fact that one of the pioneers of electricity was “apprenticed” to a bookbinder by his parents who could not afford to feed, clothe and house him.

But some wills are indomitable as this was later proved to the world as he walked the hallowed halls of the Royal Society with Humphrey Davy as first a mentored prodigy and finally as a revered and accomplished member.

One of their discoveries, inventions, so far ahead of its time as to not be practically machinable was an alloy of iron, carbon and nickel which we know today as stainless steel, his name lives on as the unit of capacitance in an electrical circuit and such men leave their mark on the world not by word of mouth but the work of their minds and their hands.

Were either of our candidates today blessed with the certain modesty and the conviction of their ideas as Michael Faraday they might light the path.

Does everyone understand that China built their nation on the back and at the cost of millions of lives?

The Chinese have no respect for human life.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Obama is not very bright. If he keeps talking, and McCain doesn't have a senior moment, McCain is winning by ten points. Obama is a complete joke.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Obama is not very bright.

It's not so much that he's not bright; he's been surrounded his whole life by radical fellow travelers in the liberal academic echo chamber, and then he was coddled by the Chicago political machine.

He's probably never been anywhere where he was forced to confront a challenge to his liberal orthodoxy.

That's a good point. But he's had enough time during this campaign to see what connects with voters and what does not. Praising a communist society is not the way to connect with the white democrat voters that he needs to become president. Those voters, hillary supporters and Reagan democrats are going to McCain. I will not be surprised if during his acceptance speech Obama further dumps on American and alienates this group.

No one seems to have mentioned that other little problem with China: endemic corruption.

Acton's law applies. (Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.)

China is not only saddled with a totalitarian regime, there is corruption at every level, one must pay baksheesh to get anything done.

Ha.

Yes. I was thinking that it was run somewhat like an organized crime ring, with the local government in cahoots, and the federal government trying ineffectively to stop it.

The people are very entrepreneurial, and there is a lot of competition at every level from sidewalk vendors, to individuals buying retail space in shopping malls, to people starting manufacturing enterprises, so it’s very much like capitalism, but absolutely no rule of law.

On another topic, I also find the Chinese people to be very proud of their country, and proud to be Chinese. They generally believe that China is a country that wants to peacefully take its place in the modern world. I find this attitude somewhat refreshing, since I see so many people in the United States who hate their own country. That’s very strange, and unusual in the world, I think.

Most of the Chnese I know also look to the United States as a wonderful place due to it’s economic and personal freedoms.
