WHO NEEDS bread and circuses when you've got networking and rock 'n' roll?

For every Democratic delegate who is bound for the convention in Denver, desperate to influence the platform committee, there are plenty more looking for the best entertainment acts and the hottest parties -- and they'll have plenty of choices.

As the politics have drained from our national conventions, high-level socializing, entertainment (with a purpose) and a chance to brush elbows with celebrities have become the real action at the quadrennial get-togethers. From studio heads to character actors, Hollywood's most devoted politicos have revised their vacation plans to make a place for the convention, with its myriad sideshows and soirées. There may be more SAG cards in Denver next week than in Hollywood

Everytime they show one of these ‘celebrities’ on TV, viewers are going to be reminded that Obama is, at his soul, nothing but a celebrity.

I hope McCain runs that ad plenty of times during the convention

Exactly, they honestly think that their associations with celebrities makes them look good? Ha! Just the opposite! It is just entertainment and not to be taken seriously. Especially with the kind of celebs that Obamanation attracts-—the ones that don’t even believe in God, Dems will be the Party of Scientology.

Bring it on, I say. The more obnoxious celebrities backing Barry, the better. When Spike Lee and various rappers appear at the DNC, Obama will lose two votes for every one he gains.

Kanye West, Spike Lee, and Obama. Can anyone say Racebait-a-thon 2008?

Yeah, they should have even more celebrities so that the convention will remind people more of Oscar or Grammy night than a political convention. I suspect Obama will say something like, “I’d like to thank my family, my producers, and the academy for this. I hope my nomination opens the door for many Blacks out there... and bla bla bla...”

You got it. The more social misfits up there the better. Give ‘em all microphones and a lot of time.

Dims can have all the “stars” they want... it doesn’t mean they’ve got more votes in November (it didn’t mean anything in ‘00 nor ‘04).

Wonderful I can’t wait for B.O. to ascend to the stage for his big speech accompanied by the poignant and stirring sounds of that hip-hop classic “Yo pimps-kill that big fat nasty ho bitch now”
