Rome, Aug 19, 2008 / (CNA) -- Archbishop Raymond Burke, prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, the highest judicial authority of the Holy See, said this week that Catholics who publicly support abortion -- especially politicians -- should not receive Communion, and that ministers of Communion should be responsibly charitable in denying it to them if they ask for it until they have reformed their lives.
[[Burke082108.jpg]]In an interview with the magazine Radici Christiane, Archbishop Burke pointed out that there is often a lack of reverence at Mass when receiving Communion. Receiving the Body and Blood of Christ unworthily is a sacrilege, he warned. If it is done deliberately in mortal sin it is a sacrilege.
To illustrate his point, he referred to public officials who, with knowledge and consent, uphold actions that are against the Divine and Eternal moral law. For example, if they support abortion, which entails the taking of innocent and defenseless human lives. A person who commits sin in this way should be publicly admonished in such a way as to not receive Communion until he or she has reformed his life, the archbishop said.

*** But isnt Communion only allowed to be withheld due to the persons personal actions, not by what he advocates in terms of public policy?***
Encouraging others to have an abortion IS a personal action. I would be as guilty of having an abortion as encouraging my daughter to have one. It’s still murder no matter how you do it. And when a politician votes for abortion, and then receives Communion, he/she is telling the church he/she is NOT a Catholic.
I’m taken back by that one myself..Is the Catholic Church now above criticism or comment on this forum now?
“You banned him for saying this?”
I “banned him?”
FYI, this is not my website...or didn’t you know that. LOL
If you have any questions, I suggest you ask the Jim Rob
Salvation you’re a very nice lady and I would not presume to debate you on points of doctrine.
I’m just more than a little ill of being aware of so very many liberal politicians who know darn well that they have excommunicated themselves walking up and getting communion from some priest who happily obliges.
The liberal Democrats are taunting The Church and using The Host as a way of pretending that their standing in The Church is just spiffy and fine! It is not enough to say they have excommunicated themselves. They need to be denied communion!
“I think the Vatican is over-run with vermin and scum.”
Well, opinions are like noses...everybody’s got one.
Oh, FYI, I reeeeeeeeely don’t care what you “think.”LOL
“Now you can ban me too.”
If that is your goal, you shouldn’t have a problem at the rate you’re going obtaining it. BIG SMILE
You can pick up your anti-Catholic Bigot Badge on your way out.
***Pass the communion...Let God settle it.
This is a “thought” sin and while I do not agree with abortion in any way...There are other “sins”...How does a priest weed out the others?? ***
I’m glad you asked. I see you don’t know the real meaning of confession. The priest is merely the representative of God. The priest forgives a sin on the condition that the repentant is telling the truth. If such repentant lies in Confession, he is committing still another sin. And THAT’S when God sorts it out.
The requirements for a good Confession:
Examination of conscience
Confession of any mortal sin
A true repentance for having sinned
Determination never to repeat the sin
Praying the Act of Contrition
Doing penance
How do they identify those who cannot receive communion?
I think this is just a gesture, not an enforceable edict."
You banned him for saying this?
I think the Vatican is over-run with vermin and scum.
Now you can ban me too.
Allow me to rephrase that . . .
The vatican is and has been over-run with vermin and scum since it's inception
And I will not post in this forum again except Humble-Gunner be re-instated today
yeah right....
Oh no!
Please please please don’t go!
(Just kidding. You won’t be missed and nobody will notice.)
Pardon???
Anyway.. can you answer the question?
Really?
Fear not, he can't ban anyone.
try brushing up on your English...
but we “think” that what you're saying is that you will not post on this forum UNTIL “humblegunner” is reinstated...
I guess that means we won't have to read any more of your anti-Catholic blatherings....WHAT A RELIEF! LMAO
It's OK.. I wasn't banned.
DING DING DING! We have a winner!
I have more fun with that...
Dude, he’s not banned or suspended. His page is a fake.
ROFLMAO
He's not banned.
Yes, there are other sins,
but suppose we take action against the rampant murder of the most innocent humans first, eh?
