World heading towards cooler 2008 -- This year appears set to be the coolest globally this century.

Data from the UK Met Office shows that temperatures in the first half of the year have been more than 0.1 Celsius cooler than any year since 2000.
The principal reason is La Nina, part of the natural cycle that also includes El Nino, which cools the globe.
Even so, 2008 is set to be about the 10th warmest year since 1850, and Met Office scientists say temperatures will rise again as La Nina conditions ease......

Where’s Al Gore? We haven’t seen him in the news recently.
FYI — “An Inconvenient Truth” was on Showtime the other day. So it’s enjoying a new lease on life on pay cable channels. The next step will be basic cable channels and broadcast channels. Then the next step will be DVDs of it donated to school districts around the country, so that the children can be “educated” as to the biggest challenge mankind has ever faced.................

    Coolest year this century?
Hasn’t been very much “century” taken place yet. There are probably a LOT of much colder years ahead for us. People will be DEMANDING the return of “global warming”.

IIRC: Sun activity tapered off somewhat this year and sun activity does a much better job (especially when compared to Goracle's debunked graph) of correlating with world temps.
Statistical Disclaimer: remember, correlation does not equal causation!

People will be DEMANDING the return Tell me about it, my garden hasn't done as well this year thanks to the cooler temps (reduced growth season).

    Cool year: unsurprising. See:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2064374/posts
In fact, temps have been falling since 1998, though some agencies (NOAA in particular) have inflated the temperatures apparently as part of a CAGW agenda.
One mistake at least though:
“Met Office scientists say temperatures will rise again as La Nina conditions ease......”
Nope... :-)

Our furnace kicked on last night. In the middle of August. In Southwest Missouri.
It’s been in the 60’s today. It’s usually about 90.
But, remember “CLIMATE” and “WEATHER” are two different things!
How convenient.

8/16/2007 was 107 degrees in Memphis TN. The same day in 2008 was 82 degrees.

Statistical Disclaimer: remember, correlation does not equal causation! True, rising global temperatures could be causing sunspots. That's what I tell my Chemistry students.

This article is insulting. In it they have even sowed the seeds of an explanation if the next decade is cool while still propping up their global warming tripe: Earlier this year, one group of researchers suggested that another natural cycle, the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation, was likely to hold temperatures steady for about the next decade, before reversing direction and allowing a renewed warming.

Dang it! I just moved to Connecticut from Florida and was hoping for some global warming to ease the transition. Guess we’ll have to teach the kids how to ski and ice skate now.

Yes, we are not seeing the beginning of the next sunspot cycle yet - it is quite late indeed. Could be the start of another solar minimum like the Maunder Minimum that gave use the middle ages little ice age..........
Check this page of pictures of the sun. Click on the link at the bottom for "List of all available daily images" and chcek out ones for the last several months. Very few sunspots at all.
Bookmark it and check back every so often.
