I have been proposing and I am proposing Russia act as a guarantor of South Ossetian autonomy within Georgia [I guess they did!]. No, they didn't. You missed the "within Georgia" part. Russia is trying to make South Ossetia a separate entity outside of Georgia.

No, they didn't. You missed the "within Georgia" part. Russia is trying to make South Ossetia a separate entity outside of Georgia. Who knows what the future may hold. I believe Georgia still considers South Oseetia within Georgia. I also believe one might say that South Ossetia is protected by Russia regarless of its status.
