Voters Souring on Obama As Never Before ( Comments on the latest Polls and others Observations )

Though Obama's veep selection is imminent, he seems to be "Biden his time" (ha!) until later in the week to make the announcement. But with a slew of recent polls showing his lead against John McCain diminished or gone completely, some big news might be just what Obama needs. An LAT/Bloomberg poll has Obama up by just two points, while a Zogby poll released this morning shows McCain — yes, McCain — with a five-point lead. We've noted before how cyclic, ephemeral swings in the polls tend to send political observers into a frenzy. But these polls are part of a longer, more ominous trend for Obama. His momentum has vanished, the race has drawn to a dead heat, and Republicans are, maybe for the first time, showing some real optimism.

• Chuck Todd and friends contend that "there is no longer this widespread belief among the wise guys and gals of both parties that we're all just sitting around waiting for this race to break in Obama's direction." The Obama campaign can't afford to make mistakes, and the McCain campaign "thinks it can win," which "wasn’t the case a few months ago." [First Read/MSNBC]

• Nate Silver proclaims that "we are getting to the point where it would be hard to describe the election as anything other than 'too close to call'" (and that was before the new Zogby poll). [FiveThirtyEight]

• Michael Goodwin speculates that the media's "fawning coverage" of Obama, which the McCain campaign has highlighted with "The One," its nickname for the Democrat, may have caused voter resentment. [NYDN]

Add ‘Combat Kerry’ to the ticket and should do it! ------------------ Wouldn't that just help Obama. Keep in mind that Kerry is a Viet Nam vet w/multiple medals. /s

Obama's lead disappeared due to his arrogance and obvious inexperience. And more and more voters are seeing him as an out of the mainstream leftist. I think he's finally jumped the shark.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."

McCains Greatest political asset is Obama’s BRAIN and his arrogance. He needs to lean to use that brain a bit more—but his arrogance will not let him.

The Congressional races are the most important part of this election, either to get a more Republican congress to oppose and shoot down the inevitable Democrat drive to the left or to get a more conservative Congress to prevent McCain from getting his Amnesty dream. Without that McCain could be a pretty good president. With Amnesty enacted it no longer matters who is president. $0 million new Democrats gives us permanent socialism and a whole new system- no more Constitution.

It’s impossible, I’m here to tell you. The black Dems I’m around HATE Hillary and absolutely will revolt if she’s the candidate.

I think she would get, maybe, three black votes.

You misunderestimate the many groveling Blacks who are owned by the liberal handout crowd. Democrats could piss on them and tell them it is raining, and they would still vote democrat party line. They've been duped pretty good to vote against the party of Lincoln and educational vouchers for the party of Robert KKK Byrd and free abortions for the poor(Blacks).

"...speculates that the media's "fawning coverage" of Obama, which the McCain campaign has highlighted with "The One," its nickname for the Democrat, may have caused voter resentment. "

"resentment"? Maybe it just smells bad when the media lines up in the tank for one candidate. It's not resentment. It's just the curse of elite liberal endorsements and favoritism by the media. But it wasn't just Big Media favoring Obama. It was the silliness of the way they made him out to be some kind of messiah or deliverer. It got silly. People smelled a fake. A charlatan, puffed up on grandiosity. When something becomes kooky or it seems like the guy might be a little nuts, a certain number of people will back away. That's not "resentment."

The fawning over and veneration of Obama became kooky. He started sliding down right after the Berlin speech. When people got a chance to compare the two candidates at the Saddleback Civil Forum, that was enough.

You’re correct. Most Americans don’t like grandiosity in their political leaders, it doesn’t look rational. Europeans, at least some of them, have a record of loving those types. The MSM mistook Barry’s European popularity as translating to Americans, who were suspicious of it. We don’t go for all that “mystique” stuff in our political leaders. Even Kennedy had to play up his “I’m a good American like you” aspect. Of course, practically since Kennedy, ‘Rats have mostly been quasi-communist, if not outright, ever since. They don’t know how to appear as patriotic Americans, because they’re not.

Evan Bayh had an American Conservative Union rating of 12 last year. Only an ignorant fool could think he’s a centrist.

Perfect synopsis...I have a neighbor and old friend who is a dyed in the wool liberal (she wanted Kucinich!!!). I ran into her the night after Obama used the term ‘typical white person’ when he was talking about grandma...she said that he was a total moron who couldn’t talk straight without his teleprompter...I agreed he was a moron...LOL
