A majority of voters say Libertarian Bob Barr, a potential spoiler for Republican John McCain's presidential hopes, should be included in the three presidential debates scheduled in the fall between Barack Obama and Mr. McCain, a recent Zogby poll says....
The online poll of 3,339 likely voters found that 55 percent of voters nationwide - including 50 percent of Republicans and 69 percent of independents and 52 percent of Democrats - want Mr. Barr, a Republican turned Libertarian, to participate in presidential debates...
Mr. Barr is sensitive to allegations that he is playing the same spoiler role for Republicans that Mr. Nader has been accused of playing for Democrats in the past.
"I view myself as a true and viable alternative to the other two parties," Mr. Barr said.
But Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, a Democrat who favors gun rights, sees an opening and recently held a telephone press conference organized by the Obama campaign to say that both major party candidates fall short in the eyes of gun-rights advocates.
"If guns are your primary issue, you're probably not going to like either of these guys," Mr. Schweitzer said, adding that in that case the best alternative was Mr. Barr - who won an A+ rating from the gun-rights lobby - "if you're absolutely not going to vote for McCain or Obama on guns."
Asked if Mr. Schweitzer, in suggesting Second Amendment defenders pull the lever for Mr. Barr, had done a "smart thing," Mr. Barr smiled and said, "They're very smart people in Montana. They have a very smart governor."...

If you bring in Bob Barr, then you have to bring in Ralph Nader.
What will be even more interesting is the VP debate, when Barr’s choice Putin goes up against the other two candidates.
I love how they spin this. The poll doesn't show that 55 percent of voters nationwide want him in, it shows 1836 people want him in the debate. He, like the 240+ other people who are running for President, has not met the criteria to be in the debates (I believe it is 6.5% polling). He is only polling around 2% nationally.
Barr has as much business int eh debate as I do.
I don’t see Barr as being that much of a threat to McCain now, as he’s become a communist on the issue of global warming, jumped into bed with the ACLU, thrown the Iraq War under the bus, and sided with the russkies in their war on Georgia.
A vote for Barr is a vote for Obama. I don’t see any reason to support a spoiler.
On-line polls are worthless - let the real pollsters do a real poll and find out what the real (low) percentage is.
Barr is only polling 3% here in Georgia, his home state. That doesn’t translate to deserving a spot in the debates.
This is crap. Obama knows Mc Cain will crucify him in a one on one debate. If he can cloud the debate with other candidates it minimizes his loss. Look for Obama to try and wriggle out of debates by saying he wont debate Mc Cain without these fringe candidates.
“Voters Want Barr In Debates”
Yes, I’d like to see how a “libertarian” explains his support of the ultimate big-government enabling scam: the absolutely ridiculous Climate Change mythology.
No, I don't.
It was an online poll. The Wash Times should be ashamed for even treating it as newsworthy. You know it was spammed by Barr-ons.
95% of the voters do not even know who is Bob Barr. This is a very silly poll.
What about Cynthia mcKinney? Your just trying to keep the
sistah down!
ROTFLMAO!
I wonder what a real poll of likely voters would yield.
No one cares if Barr is in the debates.
It should say: “A majority of voters have never even heard of Libertarian Bob Barr and those that have thinks he’s nuts.”
