One note. Writing about “assault” weapons without the quotations around it only grants legitimacy to the left’s doublespeak.

There is nothing “assault”ish about a run of the mill rifle with a flash guard, collapsible stock, or full capacity magazine...it’s just more fraudulent language like Mayor Dick’m Daley’s mystical “semi-fully-automatic” weapons.

Most of us already hand over our children to the government, to be turned into docile factory hands and cannon fodder. "If we give the bureaucrats our children, we may as well give them everything else," J. Gresham Machen said in 1928. Including our guns. We've already consented to the greatest surrender/capitulation imaginable. The bits of machined wood and metal are so much less important than the immortal souls God entrusted to us -- a trust betrayed when we render unto Caesar that which is God's -- the minds, souls, and destinies of our children.

We are not all pusses. My wife and I homeschool our kids and we own a gunshop. There are many of us.

“I always wondered what plans Clinton had for us if he could ever take away our guns”

Can you imagine...
How would things be today, in America, If Al Gore had been President on 9/11 and all the events of the day were blamed squarely on the “Right Wing Millitia and gun owners?”
As was OKC.

I will go to my grave believing that, the Clinton Admin set the stage/ dominoes for this to happen. FEMA takes over, Martial Law enacted, suspension of all civil liberties...

I’d say fear the government that fears your freedom in general. And that is exactly the government we have now.

"Obama’s reasoning -- and what his election would portend for the Second Amendment -- are a part of a larger “unilateral disarmament” ideology that is one of his core values."

Correction: "non-governmental unilateral disarmament"- he wants to create a "brownshirt" civilian security force.

“he wants to create a “brownshirt” civilian security force.”

Just so. And he is not the only one- it appears that we will soon be seeing the creation of that force either under President Obama or President McCain.

"I will go to my grave believing that, the Clinton Admin set the stage/ dominoes for this to happen. FEMA takes over, Martial Law enacted, suspension of all civil liberties..."

I would put nothing past the left; however, I think the SCOTUS left just enough wiggle room in Heller to continue allowing slow, tiny incremental restrictions rather than siezing them in one bold sweep. Of all the qualities and virtues the left lacks, patience is not one of them. They are willing to enact their agenda slowly, changing minds over the course of generations if need be.

“there are those lionized by the right that have laid the groundwork for just such things...”

the guardian angels have no powers of arrest except those allowed to any citizen. they have no objective except to help prevent crime. they are not an arm of the government. most important of all, one can tell them to go to he&& with impunity; one would not be able to tell an official, internal “government security force” to go to he&& without being subject to arrest.

above all, there is no blurring between “fighting crime” and fighting “crime against the state”.

big difference between curtis sliwa and his guardian angels and some official “internal security force” charged with state power to “make the people secure”.
