Wolf Rides to Ridge's Defense
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 08/19/2008 2:29:41 PM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Wolf Blitzer for one apparently doesn't think Tom Ridge's pro-choice position should disqualify him as John McCain's VP pick. The former Pennsylvania congressman and governor was a guest on this afternoon's Situation Room, and Blitzer began by playing a clip of Rush Limbaugh urging McCain not to pick a pro-choice running mate, saying it would "obliterate all the progress that he experienced" at the Saddleback forum.

Ridge surmised that "Rush and everybody else hopefully can see that there's a clear choice regardless of the vice-presidential candidate. A choice that says that John McCain is needed now as president of the United States in this perilous time."

That's when Wolf made a more muscular case on Ridge's behalf.

WOLF BLITZER: And if he did pick you, he, the president, he'd be calling the shots. You'd be the vice-president. You'd be doing whatever the president asks you to do.

Ridge was only too happy to agree.

Ha Ha, Wolf thinks his say-so should matter?? Trying to remember the last time I cared what Wolf Blitzer had to say about ANYTHING, never mind what is an “acceptable” VP nominee for the Republicans..... nope, can’t remember ever caring about what Wolf Blitzer has to say..... since from the first time I ever heard/saw him around the time of Gulf War I it was obvious that he is a biased liberal doofus who imagines that he is vastly intelligent and self-important.

I think any votes you pick up in PA with Ridge would easily be negated by votes lost in pro-life and libertarian voters.

Even with Tom Ridge I think PA is out-of-reach for McCain. PA is trending toward the Democrats as industry has left & the young with them. We're the biggest Nursing Home in the lower-48 except for Florida.

While I wouldn’t pick Tom Ridge, McCain might. One thing is certain so far in this election cycle: McCain’s political instincts have been a lot better than any pundit’s.

“Tom ‘Duct tape” Ridge is a putz. That should disqualify him.”

He has a strange affect. Not good communication skills. I felt like he seemed kind of clueless when he was in charge of Homeland Security.

At the core of this issue, is the total absurdity in it all. When are Democrats going to choose pro-life nominees? Do anyone see any pro-gun or pro-life Democrats? This is why conservatives are both angry and holding their breath for McCain. He did such a good job Saturday and now he’s going to piss it away. The Republicans have all of the momentum now. Just what sense would it make to choose a pro-abortion VP? Conservatives will stay home and the squishy middle will just vote for the Democrats. It’s mind-numbing ridiculousness.

Ridge is just your typical Rockefeller Republican. He adds absolutely nothing to the ticket and shouldn't even be considered for a cabinet position or a seat on a special commission. The guy's a loser, plain and simple.
