McCain took a definitive, honorable stance on abortion at Saddleback. It couldn’t have been more clear. To now come out with a candidate who’s pro-choice days later would dishonor that commitment. That’s the problem I have with this.
OTOH, why would NR come up with this stuff if they hadn’t checked it out beforehand? If what they have has substance, then can we afford not to let McCain know how we feel?
I’m inclined to give McCain the benefit of my doubt (I’m not a McCain supporter by a long shot). But I still wonder about NR’s choice in publishing this.
We’re in the sidebar under “Activism”. Thanks AdMod!
The media is pushing this so hard becasue they know if McCain picks a pro-choice VP-Obama will win in a landslide. I sure won’t vote.
Pick Palin and i’ll write a $1000 check that day.
They aren’t playing me, I’m on record when this rumor first came out last week suggesting that it was all media spin and a game, however, I also know it can’t hurt to remind McCain who his active base is. We need to flex our muscles every once in a while.
Better safe than sorry. The time it takes to respond to a post here, someone could have dropped a note in the RNC feedback form.
Check out my post #44. They claim to “have learned” of these inquiries by McCain people. That indicates efforts by McCain staff; not just media manipulation.
The NR piece that started this is dated yesterday at 10:02 p.m. It links to an editorial against Lieberman and Ridge as viable VP choices also dated yesterday at 7:00 a.m. The first mentioned piece states that NR has "learned" that the McCain campaign has been calling state leaders to poll whether a pro-choice VP candidate would fly. It would appear NR learned of this sometime during the day.
Whether this is NR "playing" anything remains to be seen. But I hardly think it's something to ignore. What does it hurt to let our opinions be known? What does it hurt for John McCain to hear directly from grassroots conservativism? I'll answer both with one word: Nothing.
I wonder if Conservative people on McCain’s staff are floating this in order to get the Conservative base active and put pressure on McCain. IE, floated because someone in his staff is concerned about the moderate/left lean.
That's possible, of course. Maybe even likely. NR goes along with it as a tool to put pressure on McCain.
But McCain was so forceful and specific at Saddleback. Would he really throw away all the resultant positive feedback a few days later on a contrary VP choice? Is he that much of a maverick? If so, I'd have to question his decision-making ability.
Time to stop getting angry and to get active.
I saw you were already there after I pinged you. Sorry. I was also going to link to this thread but you’d already done so. The link was buried way down the list when I found it, otherwise I’d have gotten there earlier.
Bump that, just heard it as well.
I think we should also hit delegates that we know. It has only been symbolic in the past, but technically, delegates have to approve the VP choice.
From what I caught, Rush heard this right from delegates who where called.
Didn’t Rush say they were being told and not asked their opinion?
na, just a Cyber Squatter.
