...Dowd may have unwittingly summed up her conundrum in a July piece, in which she remarked to Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, "It seems a President Obama would be harder to make fun of than these guys." (For the record, Stewart scoffed at her notion, asking, "Are you kidding me?")
Sorry, but Dowd's references to Obama as Beanpole Guy, Barry and No-Drama Obama seem to be forced attempts at humor...
For her part, Dowd can occasionally appear to cross the line from sarcasm to meanness. She recently wrote about McCain: "John looks in the mirror and sees his face marred by skin cancer and looks at the TV and sees his dashing self-image replaced by visions of William Frawley." Sorry, Bub. That didn't do anything for me...

My, My, My!
I knew that this would be a worthwhile thread as soon as I saw the headline.
If only McCain were as funny as Frawley.
Damn, I love Maureen Dowd Posts !! What a way to start the day.......thank you !!
You didn't leave much else for us to do here ... a full service post, eh? Oh my!
Don’t worry- There will be a picture of Bigfoot(Dowd).
This is NOT a useless thread. Great post.
Not sure I can say THANK YOU enough. You obviously know how to follow the rules....and then some!
“forced attempts at humor”? Maureen Dowd isn’t really funny any more? I don’t believe it!
Has any sane person EVER laughed at a MoDo column? Or even cracked a smile? I think not.
OK, if you say so.
They ARE rather big feet, aren’t they?
I, for one, am happy to see a continuing strict adherence to FR rules around here.
What took you so long? She looks like she’s waiting for
Christopher Hitchens to sober up.
China's last foot binding survivors
REUTERS VIDEOJul. 17 - Women in China's Yunnan Province look back at how they paid the ultimate price for beauty by binding their feet.
Survivors of foot binding continue the legend of three-inch golden lotuses in southern China's Yunnan province.
Once a symbol of wealth, foot binding has been regarded as the most undesirable price women have ever paid for beauty.
Jennifer Marostica reports.

I got as far as photo #2 and had to take a cold shower.
“big feet”
It’s hard to see in that photo but—like all her shoes—she has little bells under the arches and whistles on the toes to warn people to get out of the way.
“They ARE rather big feet, arent they?”
They’re so big,,,
How big are they?
They remind me of a punching bag toy I had as a kid. It was a blow-up clown, with huge feet, weighted with sand. You’d knock it down and it would boing right back up. That’s how big!
