So just how bad was Barack Obama's performance at the Saddleback Church faith-based forum last night? To read the cautious mainstream media reports, such as CNN, on the event you would think that Obama was merely "thoughtful" as reported by Michael M. Bates here on NewsBusters today. However, in a few media outlets a much blunter appraisal of Obama's performance can be found such as in the U.K. Telegraph. The very title of their article, "Barack Obama fails to shine alongside John McCain," gives a good idea of writer Alex Spillius opinion of the event (emphasis mine):

Is that a mug shot????
Is that a mug shot??
Barry also had his head tilted to the right the whole interview trying to court conservative Christians (no doubt).
I thought he had his neck spasm going on.
Barokeback Obama
The questions were not that tough. None of them required 10 minutes of babble.
I pay the flood beer guy the respect of at least knowing his intentions which he publically displays.
Barry Obama tries to cloke himself tighter than a zipper on a Pam Anderson outfit.
Well, when during live conversation you have to remember and use appropriately all those lines somebody has written out for you - it is stressful enough already.
When those lines have nothing in common with the way you actually think and feel... oh boy, if a lie detector was used, it would be such a fun to watch it spiking like crazy...
Yup, that lie detector needle would be doing more zig-zags than Amy Winehouse’s coffee table coke lines.....
Instead direct questions bought mostly non answers that were so long that McCain had time to answer far more.
McCain was charming, Obama was trying to come off as Professorial.
He came off as an evasive politician and that is as good IMO as the lie detector deal you brought up.
We saw lots of spiking like crazy anyway, right?
Look for an earpiece or ear bud on Obama during the debates.
BHO managed to make the much (much) older McCain look much more mentally and physically vigorous. His repeated umms and ahhs and the verbal stumbles compared poorly to JohnnyMc’s not even waiting for the full question to be asked...who would you seek counsel from? BHO..ahhh, ummm, my wife, ummm my grandmother (they allow her to speak from under the bus?)...and, umm, ah, umm....JM...General Petraeus...
Quite the contrast...now dont blow it Johnny w/the wrong VP choice.
The “thoughtful” B.O. = “uh, uh, ahh, just a moment, I’m uh, thinking.”
Buyer’s remorse, and it’s a joy to behold! What I read on the DU forum last night had me on the floor laughing.
I didn’t watch the forum, but seeing clips of it on TeeVee I noticed something I’d never noticed before - Obambi’s going a little gray. Maybe he thinks it’ll make him look more ‘presidential’, or did he leave his Just For Men Gel in Hawaii?
It’s a smug shot.
I first noticed the gray during the European Tour. I immediately thought it had been added to give him maturity. It seems to me that it didn’t really appear noticeable after he came home and I again didn’t notice it during the Hawaii vacation. I think it is applied by his makeup person before big events, but that’s just me.
The grey...probably a bottle job. I am sure Obama’s campers wanted him to appear “more mature.” Sure couldn’t do anything else to help him. All that uhmmm, ahhh stuff - so highschool-ish and giving the feeling he just can’t think on his feet when the heat is on. But, we knew that already...maybe others will finally start believing that he is an empty head in an empty suit.
He looked like he was -
A: Tired
B: Stoned
C: Evasive
D: All of the above
