2 Corinthians 13
5Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for this day and for Your abundant blessings towards us. I thank You for Your mercy and Your love, Your strength which abounds and Your sovereign touch on all that happens. Nothing can happen that isn't sifted through Your hands first, and what does happen has a reason and a purpose according to Your will. How comforting and true! Thank You for all that You are and for all You do.

I pray for the President and ask that You would cause him to stand strong in the face of trouble. Lord, with the Russians flexing their muscles, he would be tempted to backpeddle. Lord, let him see the truth and the right way and let him follow it unyieldingly. Protect Israel and cause us to stand for her, for I know that her many enemies, including Russia, would like to overrun her. Don't let us turn our back on her.

I pray for this election. Lord, let the people choose wisely. Help us, I pray. Show Your grace to us once again. For it is in the matchless name of Christ Jesus my Lord and THE Lord that I pray these things, Amen.

In the last eight years, no matter what went wrong with my day, I could always say, at least President George W. Bush is in the White House. I want to thank you Lord for that blessing, it has been immeasurable.

I pray that you will protect President Bush against all evil, and protect our troops, and thank you for the blessings of liberty.

I would also like to pray for all who are in need of healing today, be with them and restore their health.
Amen.

In God’s House
My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the Lord. —Psalm 84:2

Tobias, who recently turned 3, loves to go to church. He cries when he isn’t able to attend. Each week when he arrives for the children’s program of Bible stories, games, singing, and dinner, he runs into the building and enthusiastically announces to the leaders and other children: “Let’s get this party started!” The Lord must smile at this child’s excitement about being in what he thinks is God’s house.

The author of Psalm 84, one of the sons of Korah, also had a love for God’s house. Some commentators have speculated that for a time he, a temple singer, was unable to go to the temple—either because of sickness or circumstances. So as he wrote this psalm, his soul was especially longing and crying out to be in “the courts of the Lord” (v.2). He believed that one day of worship in God’s house gave more satisfaction than a thousand days spent anywhere else (v.10).

There’s something special about praising God together with His people, and we should take every opportunity we can to do so. But if we can’t, like the psalmist, we can still express our love for the living God and our longing to know Him (v.2). The Lord is pleased and we’ll be blessed when our heart’s desire is to be with Him and His people.

One day that’s spent with You, O Lord,
In worship and in praise
Is better than a thousand spent
In less important ways. —Sper

A good indicator of our spiritual temperature is our eagerness to worship God.
