In a recent interview with USA Olympics basketball team member Kobe Bryant, NBC Sports reporter Chris Collinsworth seemed to question Kobe’s patriotism when the player said that he was proud to wear the team USA uniform. Wondering if it was “cool” to be proud of being on Team USA, Collinsworth seemed to surprise even Bryant with the temerity of the question. Why Collinsworth wouldn’t think it would be “cool” to be proud of being on the American Olympic basketball team is anyone’s guess.

Yours is a jaded and unnecessarily cynical criticism of what was an uplifting, well done, interview.
Eat your cornflakes.

IMO, Collingsworth lobbed one for Bryant to hit out of the park. He SAID, “Tell us the story when you got your U.S.A. uniform.” He did NOT ASK, “How did you feel when you got your U.S.A. uniform?” That tells me that Collingsworth already knew Bryant's reaction. Collingsworth then proceeded to draw out more from Bryant. Of course with all the cuts back and forth, we will never know for certain exactly how the interview went. However, with the edited version that was presented, I don't think Collingsworth was being snarky or anti American at all. He was giving Bryant a platform to say his piece.

Why Collinsworth wouldnt think it would be cool to be proud of being on the American Olympic basketball team is anyones guess. Because in Collinsworth's circles, it isn't cool to be proud of America. The cool thing is to say how ashamed you are of America (like the "cool" Hollywood celebrities or the Episcopal Primates).

Crazy something that a few years ago no one could ever imagine being asked to a sports man or women who it would have been taken for granted was proud to represent their country
