this makes it clear that the “identity” factor is the fundamental one , not the appeal of the politics of the left. The socialists who took over the Democratic Party in the sixties or before, saw the identity factor as the horse they’d eventually ride to victory, “I’m black, so I vote D,” “I’m a Jew, so I vote D,” it’s not even a class/ education / social standing concept, but someting more visceral. Reagan picked the “I’m Catholic, so I vote D” lock, I’m sure that lock wasn’t as fixed.
That sermon gave me cold chills and was exactly right. That goes for women too. As long as you don’t make yourself valuable and rely on your differences, you will remain under a roof and stuck. But if you let yourself succeed, you will do better in the long run.
But in this instant society, no one can see that far.
