POSTVILLE, Iowa (AP) - A vague unease whispered through this tiny town in northeastern Iowa, where the rolling hills are a study in vivid colors - red barns, white clapboard houses, and vibrant green cornfields plowed with almost architectural precision.
Yes, we do. And it's about damned time the federal government started doing something about it.
Pull up the buses and ship em out!
Real cute, Monica.
lots of American 16-17 yr olds. walking around doing nothing but listening to their iPods and playing Wii... give them those jobs.
Postville, Slave Labor Capitol of the Midwest.
Wonder if that will fit on the sign?
Take out the trash.
yeah, and fine the company that hired them,,I mean really hefty!
I’m not saying that. It’s like here in CA. The hispanics chant this is their territory and they want it back. it was a craphole when they gave it up and now they want it back with the trillion dollar infrastructure.
“About 150 Somalis, refugees who live and work legally in this country, have arrived to work at Agriprocessors since the raid. . . In the evenings, the long, lanky men in loose fitting clothes and women, swathed in traditional Muslim dresses and hijabs, can often be seen walking from the meatpacking plant to downtown.”
I think I prefer the Guatemalans, thank you.
All the profiteers of these slave laborers are disgusting and inhumane. Ship the Latinos home and put the creeps running these concentration camps in prison where they belong!
So the orthodox guys will hire Somali Muslims to keep their kosher meatpacking plant running?
Quick! Somebody call the WHAAAAAAAAAmbulance!
***Like the Hasidic Jews who came to the town in 1987 to open the meatpacking plant, and the Eastern Europeans who made up the first band of workers there, the influx of Guatemalans and Mexicans had both buffeted and bolstered this quiet community - until it reached a new cultural equilibrium. ***
UNLIKE the Hasidic Jews, they were ILLEGAL.
“They are asking ‘What’s going to happen to the town? Do we have the strength to make another adjustment?’””
Hilarious liberal-psychobabble.
The owners have a problem, though. Legal Somalis will be a lot harder to push around than illegal Guatemalans. Heck, they might even have to give them (horrors) a raise!
Awesomely astute observation. My housing situation is in violation of some local ordinances. I will blame no one but myself if the code is enforced.
Too bad one of those choppers couldn’t have lobbed some explosives right down Mr. “We have a problem here” Mayor’s chimney.
I think I prefer the Guatemalans, thank you.

Double dittos on that.
Actually, there’s even more to the story, when you bring in the Chinese, legal immigrants on work visas for whom Postville was just a waystop, who never intended to stay there, and who were never expected to stay there by their sponsors at the meat-packing plant. Nice income stream for them; I wonder if it’s dried up at all?

Boycott the B*******
Immigration raids are boon to Texas labor recruitersFrom a cluttered office suite a block off Main Street in this city near the Mexican border, Bravo, his father Jose and their Bravo Labor Agency set out to fill the void. So far, they've recruited about 200 workers for Agriprocessors, sending them north on buses in batches of 10 to 15.
Bravo and other recruiters applaud the recent crackdowns by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents at jobsites in Iowa, Texas and elsewhere.
Anyone that doesn’t cover their identity is fine with me.
I’m beginning to like the Guats more and more.
