The rise in carbon dioxide emissions is big news. It is prompting action to reverse global warming. But little or no attention is being paid to the long-term fall in oxygen concentrations and its knock-on effects.
Compared to prehistoric times, the level of oxygen in the earth's atmosphere has declined by over a third and in polluted cities the decline may be more than 50%.

In the 20th century, humanity has pumped increasing amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by burning the carbon stored in coal, petroleum and natural gas. In the process, we've also been consuming oxygen and destroying plant life cutting down forests at an alarming rate and thereby short-circuiting the cycle's natural rebound. We're artificially slowing down one process and speeding up another, forcing a change in the atmosphere.
(snip)
Surprisingly, no significant research has been done, perhaps on the following presumption: the decline in oxygen levels has taken place over millions of years of our planet's existence...
(snip)
Evidence from prehistoric times indicates that the oxygen content of pristine nature was above the 21% of total volume that it is today. It has decreased in recent times due mainly to the burning of coal in the middle of the last century. Currently the oxygen content of the Earth's atmosphere dips to 19% over impacted areas, and it is down to 12 to 17% over the major cities.

Scaremongering? I don't think so. A reason for doomsaying? Not yet. What is needed is an authoritative evidence-based investigation to ascertain current oxygen levels and what consequences, if any, there are for the long-term wellbeing of our species and, indeed, of all species

But, who cares. The point is, I can play Mr. Knowitall jerk too and I usually win.I must agree, your skills in that area far outweigh mine!
I’ve been saying algore should tell liberals mass suicide is the only way out, emitting CO2 is wrecking the planet after all! :)
Why are you so hard on Peter, he only wants to be liked. And after all Joslin Elders as surgeon general said, "Well we are all going to die of something".
Thanks.
That is just darn funny!!! LOL!
Other than just being pure BS on every imaginable front the envirofreakz need to know that I have a treefarm. My trees love CO2 and a little extra probly doesn’t hurt. If the geniuses figure out a way to actually cut CO2 I WILL start burning tires just to feed my trees. And maybe I’ll start saving tires on the off chance they actually start changing atmospheric chemistry thru voodoo or their own decomposition. What kind of gas does a rotting environut give off?
You can almost hear the BS bubbling up in his brain. Dang Arts majors should stick to their arts and leave the real world to us Science majors.
Obviously the answer to this problem is for him to quit breathing.
Putrescine and Cadaverine. Seriously.

Er, uhm, right.
Looked at some graphs by the AGW propagandists at the Carnegie “Science” Center today, and they show some more of this garbage:
21% oxygen = 21/100, 210/1000, or 210,000 ppm. But the graph shows an alarming O2 “decline” from 210,000 ppm to (hold your breath) 209,900 ppm.
Wow! What a threat! Let's kill humans with poverty and cold to prevent them from suffocating to death at 209,900 ppm O2!
This stupidity is following exponential law!
Ok, this is a panic story. But it has some truth to it. Less plant life = less oxygen production. We are currently razing to the ground rainforests and other forests around the world. And as the worlds population continues to skyrocket, more forests will have to be destroyed to make room for people.
