Barack Obama’s campaign for the presidency is scrambling to stem a stream of false allegations modelled on the “Swift Boat” smears that helped to defeat the last Democratic nominee, John Kerry, four years ago.
A new book written by Jerome Corsi, entitled The Obama Nation, leapt to No 1 in the bestseller lists this week with claims that the Illinois senator is a closet Muslim, a black militant and takes cocaine.
Among the same author’s other titles is Unfit for Command, a book that helped to propagate allegations from the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth about Mr Kerry’s Vietnam war record.
Corsi’s latest work is one of an estimated 20 books – largely hostile – that are being written about Mr Obama.
The Obama campaign issued a 41-page point-by-point rebuttal of the book this week under the heading “Unfit for Publication”. A spokesman said: “Once again, bigoted fringe author Jerome Corsi is trying to make money off of an election, spinning garbage as journalism and relying on the right-wing echo chamber to pump up sales.
“His is just one of what will likely be many more lie-filled books rushed to print this election cycle, which are cobbled together from debunked internet sources to make money and advance a partisan agenda. We will respond to these smears forcefully with all means at our disposal.”

Aides have promised to turn the tables on Corsi, digging into his own past and highlighting previous outlandish statements which suggested that the US Government had lied about the September 11 attacks and that the late Pope John Paul II had been senile.
Smears such as John Kerry stating that it is "seared, seared" in his memory that he went on a secret mission on Christmas eve to Cambodia and was sent by someone who wasn't even president at the time?! If these items are as accurate about Obama as they were about Kerry then swift boating can only mean a grass roots effort to reveal the truth when the media betrays the nation by failing to do their jobs.
Swift Boat smears??? Really? What would those have been?
How can he invite Ocra Winfree to help him and then use a word like “rebut” in the next sentence? Oh, sorry, that would be “rebutt” if it applied to Ms. Winfree.
Dr. Coursi, if they want to go toe-to -toe, post your birth certificate, # and all, then challenge him to do the same.

Corsi may be a kook, but Obama’s the one running for office.
How do the Obama aides attack the Freddosi book. It was published prior to Corsis. I haven’t read it but heard it contains many of the same “lies” as the Corsi book. Freddosi stated there was no agenda to writing the book, he just wanted to learn more about Obama. How the hell are they going to spin that?
I’m halfway through the book and I don’t see where Bambi is accused of being a closet Muslim.
There is a discussion of evidence (familiar to FReepers) that he was raised as a Muslim during his years in Indonesia. Corsi didn’t make this stuff up; it’s well-docuemented.
It is absolutely absurd for a candidate for the president of the United States to be campaigning anywhere in the world outside the borders of the United States. Unless, of course, you want to control your audience to make sure there aren’t any dissenting citizens.
What lies? I am for anyone having the right to address lie told about them, but what lies does Obama claim are being perpetrated against him?
Media bias? What media bias?
Or should that be Orca 
Winfrey?
This is going to get very interesting...
Maybe we need something special to let everyone know about all these good books on the way!

So if you can discredit someone on one issue, they’re automatically discredited on every issue? Funny, they never applied that standard to Bill Clinton. What Corsi brings to the table isn’t just his opinions, but documented facts from which the reader may draw his own conclusions, and I don’t hear the liberals challenging Corsi’s facts.
So far, this is the only sort of rebuttal that I have seen or read. I could care less who Corsi is or what he has had to say about other subjects. What is important is what he has to say about Mr. Obama. If his book is, as claimed by the Obama Camp and the MSM (redundant), a pack of lies then I would like to know exactly what statements in the book are lies. Apart from an apparent error concerning the marriage date of Mr. Obama's parents, I haven't read any credible rebuttals of anything else in this book. This weak counterattack is not going to help their cause much.
McCain On Swift-Boating Book: "Gotta Keep Your Sense Of Humor"

Asked by a reporter today to comment on the book, McCain said: "Gotta keep your sense of humor," before his aides whisked him away.
That prompted Obama spokesperson Tommy Vietor to launch approximately a dozen tactical nukes in McCain's direction:
I plan to buy a copy of the book. I am flying to California next week and I want to either be reading that book or one of the anti Obama books!
One reason it is #1 is that, actually, Obama has been a bit mysterious about details of his past. And he has a very strange background.
I mean a really unusual backghround. So people are curious.
He has not satisfied that natural curiosity. He makes general statements but no details.
So these books are simply filling in a natural curiosity. It was bound to happen.
