LOL

Sorry for the giggle...

China apparantly has also banned or locked up any Christian pastors and leaders for the several months of the Olympics...

I guess they thought nobody would notice...

Good for this American speaking out...

I dont think our US organizers tell our atheletes to leave their rights or their religious beliefs and need to worship at home...

Whatever happened to Christ’s injunction to go to your room in secret and pray in secret and God would reward you openly? Are the athletes going there for sermons or to compete?

They are not banned and locked up ONLY for the Olympics. Such things are the norm in China.

Yes that’s true...

Read China Cry...

or one of Watchman Nee’s books...

But apparantly there was a special roundup...

I have read most of Watchman Nee’s books....and, as a Catholic, I am VERY aware of how priests and bishops have been (and continue to be) treated in China.

It is also good to know that Christianity is thriving amidst all the persecution there.

I can't say I'm surprised by this and obviously it will do no good for the athletes that are there...

however...

the GOOD benefit from this is that the Chinese are very sensitive to criticism and negative reports in the press. Any rattling of their cage is a good thing.

Agreed....

BTW, these whiners can’t go 2 weeks without religious services? Please.

I imagine the Chinese leadership have a countdown clock...

14 days till the Westerners leave and we can go back to our norm...

13, 12, 11...........

Sometimes when you’re facing the greatest test of your life, when you have to deal with the pressures of your nation and comrades, with the possibility of public humiliation and loss, with the end of an anticipated professional career and devastating financial consequences, a devoted Christian will want to bring these things to the Lord. In dealing with such matters it’s normal and desirable to seek God’s will, and the discernment of a more mature Christian, someone accustomed to counseling people, is enormously helpful. This is particularly true of young people who are sincere believers but don’t have the years of experience in the faith that an older person might have.

In addition, the training and living facilities often don’t offer the privacy and silence one needs to really seek God’s face. Naturally one wants to retreat to some consecrated place.

Sorry you don’t understand, but longing to find the nourishment of Christian services and counsel does not make one a “whiner.”

" It has instead pledged that it will provide equivalent services from its pool of state-employed pastors, imams and other clerics."..

Equivalent ?? The Chi-Coms will do Only what They do Best... Lie, Deflect criticism, and provide ONLY a Cheap, inferior, imitation of a product or services. In this case, warm bodies to fill the "needed" slots..

Volunteer OR "donate" a Kidney..or two..!

But do you think it fair to complain about the accommodations provided by the atheistic communist Chinese??? Should we be surprised about this? Can’t a devoted Christian go for TWO WEEKS on his own?

I guess freedom of speech, religion, and right to associate is not high on your list of needs.

I don't believe in whining when you're a visitor in someone else's country and that country doesn't have your constitution. You're never constrained in praying.

Then tell them to go out and find one of the many churches in Beijing where they can pray - that is if they need a special place to pray.

Someone answer this question for me. Can you only pray to God in a religious center or can you pray to him anytime anywhere?

Me thinks someone is playing politics here rather than simply practicing their faith. Disingenuous, transparent and using their religion for political gain.

You are correct, I am not buying this stupid story.

They are not complaining about it not being a quiet place. They are complaining because they can not have their own chaplains and priests in the Athlete Olympic area.

That restriction sounds reasonable to me given the security concerns at the Olympics. And can you imagine the first time a priest was searched going into the area? I'd bet someone would be claiming religious persecution.

Put me down as another that does not understand. I hear a violin playing and suggest those complaining take it outside. I'm sure they will find lots of cameras out there where they can find the “quiet” they are really intent on finding.

That's exactly what's going one. You can pray anywhere, anytime, with or without anyone. That's the great thing about God. he doesn't need a building to hear you in.

To the athletes: respect your hosts and pray for them. That will do a lot more than disrespect and whining.

We Catholics are obligated to attend Mass weekly. (And evidently, many of us WANT to, as well.)
