Russian soldiers in bank job

By STAFF REPORTER

RUSSIAN soldiers have been caught on camera ROBBING a bank in war-torn Georgia.

The band of gun-toting men were caught on CCTV forcing their way into the bank in Gori.

Once inside, the men are seen breaking into the teller offices and rifling through the desks.

They are then caught making off with what appear to be armfuls of equipment including laptop computers and perhaps even cash.

The outrage took place amid some of the bloodiest fighting in Gori, which is on Georgia’s main east-west highway.

Barbarians! The Russian military has obviously been instructed to destroy or steal everything and leave the country in shambles before the UN or NATO bribes them to leave.

The Georgian military is totally outnumbered and outgunned.

This is truly a demonstration of Russia’s sense of entitlement to take back its Soviet Empire.

This is going to end badly.

Just think of the lives that Moscow and the KGB are going to ruin with the information pulled from those bank laptops.

“There’s $15,000,000 of gold in that bank. All you have to do is turn this thing around (Clint Eastwood pointing the gun on a Tiger tank) and blow that door open and you get an even share of the gold”.

My guess is the troops that involved in this exercise are not Russia's best. In fact, the photos I've seen so far would seem to portray them as dregs. I have no way of knowing, but having seen our troops in action for four years now I suspect Russia has no combat forces that could stand up to us, at least not for very long. I realize overconfidence is the kiss of death.

I would think Russia would be very hesitant to give the world a chance to see their troops and equipment against ours in a fight. They seem to make a good bit of money by selling arms, that and oil. A really resounding defeat at our hands would not do their marketing any favors at all.

I also suspect the forces that are being used for this operation are only barely under the control of Putin et al.

I could way off base in all this, but I have not seen any real evidence that these are crack troops, battle tested and ready to fight. In fact, just the opposite. When a French reporter interviewed some of them they had the smell of alcohol on their breath and all they wanted to do was complain about being there.

Do you suppose the Russian military has convinced the powers that be over there that they would be match for us?

Why should anyone be surprised at this? I certainly am not.

Let’s see...WWII...their behavior in countries they conquered made the Nazis seem like gentlemen. Read Bob Hoover’s account of them in his excellent book “Forever Flying”.

Then look at what they did in Afghanistan.

This should surprise nobody.

This is reminiscent of the officially sanctioned looting and sacking of Germany and other territory overrun by Russia as WWII drew to a close.

They stripped these countries clean, taking everything of any value including scientists, technicians, skilled workers and laborers.

In a mammoth undertaking, they dismantled complete factories, foundries, ship-works, refineries, publishers and print presses, schools, laboratories, homes, museums and anything else that wasn't bombed to pieces.
They shipped them back to Russia where they were reassembled and put to use. They also brought back as slave labor the people to reconstruct and operate the relocated facilities.

The whole post war Russian economy was kick started with the people, war booty and technology stripped from vanquished countries, most of which was more modern and productive than anything Russia had up to that time.

Now that you mention it, no, I'm really not surprised. I just hadn't thought about it. You hear how much they're spending on rebuilding their armed forces, although you never hear of any intelligence on how well they're doing.

I have to wonder about the logistics of keeping a force in Georgia. That's a pretty long supply line to have to keep up.

So far it sounds like a rout of the Georgia forces. Do they have something to continue the fight with or have they shot their wad? Of course, even if you had some battle experienced troops you wouldn't want to send them out to be killed in their first encounter. Hopefully they'll use the 2,000 or so that we've sent back from Iraq as the backbone for an encore.

Obviously, that's where Georgian aggressor stashed stolen Ossetians’ money! Russia was forced to restore order and justice!

I give the Russians credit for fighting like animals to survive the Nazis.

What I don’t give them credit for is behaving like animals when they were victorious.

I understand that in war, bad things happen and good people sometimes do bad things, but what the Red Army did was almost beyond the pale.

I still think that in any direct showdown, if we ever have one, we will come out on top simply due to the quality of our men, training and equipment. Our military trains like they fight, and it shows.

Let’s hope it never comes to that.

Shock horror look at those filthy Russian soldiers. Animals I here you cry! Take a step back people. Check out their armbands. The CCTV footage is available from outside and has been screened on TV. The footage from outside shows them breaking in and then leaving giving a clearer view. These are not Russian soldiers, but irregular forces.

All of them are wearing identifying arm bands. They are a scruff unit and wear the bands in order not to be shot or engaged by the Russian Army. The Georgians also have irregular forces. All of them have blood on their hands and are outside the normal military disciplinary chain of command of the regular army.
