Dallas County addresses rise in foreign-born Latino population
Dallas morning news ^ | Aug. 15, 2008 | DIANNE SOLÍS

....Dallas County continues to see its demographic hue deepen....... More Latinos here are foreign-born than in other parts of the state and nation.

About half of the county's Latino population in 2006 was foreign-born. That was the case for only a third of Latinos in the state and about 40 percent nationwide.

"Diversity is happening faster than we thought," said the state's demographer.

The demographic shift already has meant changes for churches and commerce, which both offer services in Spanish. Schools, governments and workplaces, however, sometimes struggle with the changes and their effects.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, for instance, has lagged behind in processing applications, after a record 1.4 million legal permanent residents who applied for naturalization last fiscal year. That was double the number of the previous year.

.... Michael Aytes, acting deputy director of Citizenship and Immigration Services, said that nearly all the backlog from before July 30, 2007, would be cleared up in time for the new citizens to register to vote and cast ballots in the Nov. 4 election.

"We understand that the right to vote is one of the most sacred rights of a citizen," Mr. Aytes said Thursday. But "we would be wrong to put voting rights ahead of making sure we are making the right decision to grant naturalization."

About a third of naturalizations came from Latin America in the 2007 fiscal year. It's expected that the pace of Latin American naturalizations will increase this fiscal year, due to the large numbers of Mexican legal permanent residents becoming U.S. citizens, Mr. Aytes said.

"We are delighted that more people will make it under the wire and vote in the elections," Mr. Vargas said. "But it isn't just about this one election," he said, promising more citizenship and voter campaigns after 2008.

One has to understand a people before he attempts to influence him on his point of view

I have no interest at all in understanding the average illegal alien.

I think we should concentrate on making him understand why he is really really really un-welcome, and why he should pack and leave at the soonest opportunity. Before the mean guys in the green uniforms show up.

Western civilization is at stake, and should make no apologies or explanations for wanting to perpetuate itself, certainly not to primitives who have only vague physical desires that they wish to satisfy at the expense of that civilization.

“most of the immigrants are Conservative”

Including `illegal immigrants’ (or whatever euphemism they go by now)?
They are in favor of enforcing our immigration laws?

When Tarrant county cut them off from free social services, they flocked to Dallas. Other surrounding counties are doing the same.

I would not be even a tiny bit surprised to see Parkland hospital bankrupt in the next three years.

Those rules would apply if you were from Norway or Italy. Mexicans get food stamps and housing along with Medicare while they are applying.

Kennedy will explain that he had brain cancer and that’s why he approved all this nonsense.

I've been hit by two illegal Mexicans without insurance or drivers licenses in seven yrs in Dallas co. One minor, one major accident. In the minor one, an Hispanic Irving police officer responded and failed to issue a citation to the at fault IA; just let him go after a whispered discussion in Spanish. The other accident happened in city of Dallas, the offender arrested and my insurance paid for my damaged car. Never heard what happened to him. Every day in DFW there are multiple hit and run accidents (typically drunk drivers), almost all of them related to this Diversity. Let us celebrate.

Latin American corruption creeps into our once fairly clean police forces and merges with ethnic solidarity to produce a sickening, but predictable, result.

The term "Mexican police" has always been considered oxymoronic.

How is changing to a single demographic (hispanic) considered diversity?

Actually, this is going the direction of LESS diversity as one population becomes more and more prevalent than others. I think these idiots believe diversity means more of everyone but white folks.

ACtually, when the laws heavily favor one group (hispanics in this case) over all others, it’s not particularly healthy, especially when they favor those with less education etc. We crow about diversity, and yet our immigration policy puts the lie to it.

Robbery Under Law

A quote from this book:

"Mexican popular heroes are drawn in another shape – squat, swarthy, passionate, intolerant, vain men who when cornered shoot their way to freedom and take to the mountains, who will steal and promise and give lavishly, sell anything and repudiate the bargain, murder their friends and buy off their enemies, nurse a grudge and forget a kindness, sometimes grossly sacrilegious, sometimes heroically pious, Aztec and Castillian inextricably confounded."

This is the future for the Southwest if nothing changes to stop this invasion.

Anyone who thinks the soil of the U.S. will magically change this Latin character is a dreamer of the worst kind.

How do you show large numbers of people who are socialist by upbringing that it’s best to vote for the party which is not promising them socialism? I think you’re naive.

I have lived most of my life in the southwest. I have found that most people of hispanic descent I’ve met, regardless of when they came, are conservative if they are well off and liberal if they are poor. The fact that the masses coming across our southern border are poor suggest that most of them will end up voting democrat, regardless what anyone says about trying to understand their *needs*.

Ridiculously naive. My Mexican (legal) wife has to CONSTANTLY remind family friends that spout off about liberal promises of utopia how much Mexico absolutely sucks, especially their socialist healthcare. They just don't get it - when you leave your home country because it sucks, you don't bring the suck mentality to your adopted home.

I had quite a few latino friends back in Kansas, I played softball with some, 1st generation American hispanic (folks from Jalisco) they ran a restaurant. I went to school with one—they were all Democrats. All (except one, a borracho) subscribed to conservative principals: hard work, fidelity, honesty, etc.
Never understood how—like blacks—they could stick with a party that takes them for granted, but there it is.
McCain won’t get their votes. I think the election is going to be a close one and the GOP is going to wish he’d stuck with the conservative base. What were the figures after they both spoke to LULAC/La Raza? 9:1, `rat/GOP?
But how could he stick with us? He’s not conservative but a “moderate”. The only thing I share with him is his thinking on Iraq and the fact that `mavericks’ go their on way.
I will vote for and support conservatives, anyone who will enforce our laws. As Hector said .... see tagline.
And rant over. (good weekend!)

I have been speaking of “Legal Immigrants” and not of illegal aliens.

Legal immigrants are by nature self motivated as they have elected to go through the legal immigration process for the chance of a better life in America. They are not unlike the immigrants that came to America via Ellis Island during the first two decades of the 20th century.

In addition, the are hard working, and largely have conservative values.

Are you saying that ONLY Mexicans receive food stamps, Medicare and housing during the application process.

If that is the case. Do you have a source for that data?

Right. I forgot. They are so bent on being honorable and self-sufficient that they turn down public assistance at every chance. Also, those pamphlets they were passing out in mexico were about how not to accept public aid and assistance.

Talk about naive.

Ask somebody who lives in LA. That’s where I learned about how they arrive in the city and are told what offices to go to by their embassey.
