That’s what I get tired of hearing, how Georgia invaded South Ossetia. I keep thinking, if the military moved into Florida to settle an uprising, would the world say the US invaded Florida?

Crazy.

I hate to say you are right. We jumped through hoops for Kuwait. It seems we only fight the ones we know we can beat.

You forgot that both Kuwait and Iraq had plenty of oil. Georgia - nada. Only that lunatic president of theirs.

No, I didn't forget that. They both still do have plenty of oil. That doesn't take away from the fact that redrawn boundaries after WWI is pretty much the same excuse Saddam used.

And Georgia has a pipeline. Wouldn't exactly call that "nada."

"I suppose the same way we saw Great Britain as "invaders". Did the British invade us?

Maybe the breakaway province of Aztlan?

Well, “Son” I was “telling the truth”.

South Ossetia is part of Georgia. Just like Michigan is a part of the US.

There was a riot, which escalated, the police were over run so the military was sent in.

Then the Russians came in

Now why don’t you try reading up on what really happened?

Why were the Russians sitting there in FORCE?

Why did the Russians “pass out passports like candy”?

Why were there Russian arms given out just before the SHTF?

If Michigan tried to secede from th US and Bush sent in troops to quell the riots, you think it is ok for Canada to send in tanks and kill American soldiers?

No, it was EXACTLY the same thing.

Don’t tell me that area “hasn’t been ruled since 1920s” by Georgia, since Georgia AND that are were OCCUPIED by the SOVIETS.

Another Russian Apologist comes to light.

Oh and change your name, since your alias is nothing like Kirk would do it.

It seems we only fight the ones we know we can beat.

Emotionally, I'm all-out for Georgia.

But the leader of Georgia, for all the great good he's done in
patching Georgia into a working, democratic country...
seems to have "over-reached".

I give him A+ for courage and determination.
BUT, if he did (as reported) respond across the border into South Ossetia
(after provocation by "friends of The Bear")...
he simply acted too early and probably without the sanction of
the USA, other allies and NATO.

The guy is smart and admirable.
But it may be that he needs to revisit that old maxim:
"Timing is everything."

But by your post, you are acting as if he entered into another country to handle an issue. Since when does a nation have to get permission from NATO or the UN to handle it’s own people in it’s own territory! If anything, Russia, who claims to be protecting citizens of another country by the way, should have gone to the UN. NATO is irrelevant since they decided not to accept them (Georgia).

Number two is that both the chechens and georgians reported troop buildups very early on. So much so that the state dept warned Georgia to not react.

The South Ossetians were shelling Georgians villages. And for years they have been kidnapping children and others and doing the Pali game quite well.

Russia is backing the separatists for her own evil purposes.

They would hopefully attack to kill those who did it....if someone killed our guys

The leader of Georgia jumped the shark.

and he complicated our best interests in the meantime.

he was a poor mule to hitch yer wagon to and now we're stuck doing diplomatic and strategery sabre rattling cause that's all we got unless the big nuts crowd here wants to trade nukes with Putin over this backwater.

not me...

back in the real Cold War we woulda been more careful and prepared.

we could win a nuke battle with Putin but at what cost?

a damn high one

Bush's relatively muted reply to all this publicly belies that about all he can do is make a deal

so because we trusted this numbnuts running Georgia to behave with the proven testy Putin (leader of the world's largest Mafia who did not get there being stupid nor soft)

now we will have to fork over some gratuity to get Pooty to go back to his yard and quit pounding the shite out of his neighbors

this is a result of foreign policy misadventure (and some political correctness) going back to the Balkans.
