Russian General Threatens Poland with Attack over US deal
Jerusalem Post ^ | 15 Aug 2008 | Associated Press

Posted on 08/15/2008 6:40:42 AM PDT by docbnj

A top Russian general said Friday that Poland's agreement to accept a US missile defense battery exposes the country to attack, pointing out that Russian military doctrine permits the use of nuclear weapons in such a situation, the Interfax news agency reported. *** Interfax said he added, in clear reference to the agreement, that Russia's military doctrine sanctions the use of nuclear weapons "against the allies of countries having nuclear weapons if they in some way help them." Nogovitsyn said that would include elements of strategic deterrence systems, according to Interfax.

I think first thing we should do is if the Russians try to reclaim former Warsaw Pact satelites then we should threaten to invade Cuba.

Quick send Obama

Can we have one thread without Obama's name in it? It's really getting sickening.

“...and so it begins...”

LOL

Where have you been for the last 40 years?

Only difference between today and ‘68 is a different crop of di**heads on the TV at night.

....plus, I will admit, some troops who I’m grateful and proud to have on our side.

...and that silly Russian stands up and talks smack like that....

and so it begins...

It's a three run hit by the U.S. at the bottom of the second inning. This could be a overtime game, or rain shortened...we can only speculate.

Strawman argument directed against someone who posted a simple comment. Do you always blow things out of proportion?

It's not a straw man at all. The principle is precisely the same as in the article.

Contemplator's comment seems to indicate that there isn't (or he doesn't see) an appreciable difference between offensive and defensive use of military power. I think the comparison is quite appropriate.

More proof we need a policy of targeted assassination.

putin should be a very dead man and the sooner the better.

I just hope it stays cold.

Hoping is not what we need, or what the infant democracy's need.

As a long time sufferer of the last cold war with the Bolshevik's, I don't have hope because I learned that hope does not bring a end to it.

I have quiet determination to end this as quickly as possible and react to what happens either way.

Nope. If I were I wouldn’t even be trying to rationally think about the situation, I would immediately judge everyone as being in the wrong and go back to sleep.

That's good to know. :-)

With that cleared up, I think the deployment in Poland serves a number of purposes well. The situation in Georgia doesn't eliminate those purposes, and in fact underscores some of them.

What Russia likes and doesn't like should be pretty low on our list of Important Criteria.

You weren't too far off. What the defensive missiles do is change the Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD) balance. That's what has got the Russians so ticked off. Increasing our offensive missiles or reducing the effectiveness of their offensive missiles. The results are similar either way.

There doesn't need to be a MAD balance, unless you presume Russian and American intentions and goals are equal.

What if the USA were the only nation to have nukes? Would the world be in danger of the American Empire? Hardly.

What if Russia were the only nation to have nukes?

Do you see a difference?

The important thing to acknowledge in all the objective analysis is that the USA is essentially good with respect to its relationship with the rest of the world and Russia is essentially evil by the same measure.

It really is as simple as that.

If not, then the terms "good" and "evil" have no meaning.

It's not immoral for good to have the upper hand.

” Their doctrine is pretty much that they can attack anyone they wish with nuclear weapons. “

Admitting to a “first use” doctrine is a line that, to my knowledge, the Soviets never crossed...

This is disturbing, to say the least....

I agree; much as the USSR and US were at loggerheads during the 60's, I don't think that was ever expressed as clearly as this. This is, to my mind, a direct result of the Reid/Pelosi cabal and their useless idiots making us dependent on foreign trade as equal to our own production sources.

Either we get serious about cleaning out the traitors and seditionists that infect our government, or we can plan on slavery if we're not annihilated first.

Yes, and it is likely it will all end in flames this time. Global economic strife has ended in world wars from the fallout of 1908 and 1929 global recessions/depressions. 1966 market meltdown saw the beginning of a new advance of Communism, Cambodia, Vietnam war, Afghanistan. The effects of such a global war would go nuclear, with a regional mid-east war to finish destroying the West’s economy and North Korea then attacking South to grind down our military. Our allies like Israel and South Korea get pummeled as these are nations that are defensive barriers to oil and resource rich lands. When the final missle exhange occurs, we must turn Moscow’s rubble into more and yet more rubble. Then occupy it with 200,000 troops to end there stupid, barbaric culture forever.

Threatening Poland is the same thing as threatening the United States.

It's the same as threatening every member of NATO not just the U.S.A.
