Lawyers’ Ties in Edwards Case Suggest Extent of Hiding Affair (NY Times jumps in with both feet)
New York Times ^ | August 15, 2008 | SERGE F. KOVALESKI and MIKE MCINTIRE

Posted on 08/14/2008 9:52:59 PM PDT by Scarchin

snip-The revelations of ties among the lawyers emerged through public records and interviews with people close to Mr. Edwards and Ms. Hunter, which suggested that their affair went on longer than Mr. Edwards admitted and that the effort to conceal it by Mr. Edwards’s inner circle was much more extensive than has been reported.

The review found that Mr. Edwards’s political action committee went to unusual lengths to make a final $14,000 payment to Ms. Hunter’s film company months after its contract with the committee had ended. The payment was issued while the committee was short on cash and could pay its bills only after receiving thousands of dollars from Mr. Edwards’s presidential campaign and donations from four people, including Mr. Baron’s wife.

Oh dear, now I’m confused. I was firmly convinced that Edwards had an affair, but after reading the New York Times I’m not sure anymore — they so often get everything exactly backwards

I am frankly stunned that The New York Times would run this story about a liberal.

The only think I can imagine is that they have decided that he is toast anyway so they might as well pile on.

Best report so far is from NewsBusted

" John Edwards admitted to having an affair this week, or as Democrats call it, 'being Presidential'"

LOL. The NY Times jumps, many months after they should have been able to write the same story, if only they’d wanted to.

They must have decided it’s more convenient now to bury Edwards quickly..... now he will be “old news” by the time the DNC rolls around.

Got to hand it to the NY Times, they seem just as credible as, say, Jerome Corsi writing about Obama!! Kudos to the NY Times for showing what they can do when they put just a little bit of effort into exposing liberals and their lies.

Who cares...send him back to his little poor house with just the shirt left on his back. Give all the money to the wife and kids.

I don’t know.

Do you think this is meant to bury him quickly?

What I see in the story is an opportunity for a reporter(s) to make a name for himself and bust open a big scandal about sex and a campaign funds related cover-up.

Wasn’t it just last Aug. or Sept that the word on the street was some major paper had the dirt on a Presidential candidate but wasn’t going to publish?

I think this “news” published by the NYT is information they obtained quite some time ago.

Look for the LA Times to be next.

The Times is jumping in because the Enquirer paved the way for them.

They know they can't not cover this, and they know that stories like this sell.

They also know their balance sheet is as horrid as all of those newspapers that are now just distant history.

John Edwards is the bone they are throwing to what is left of their readership, and their stockholders.

It won't save them, though, IMO. The Gray Lady is almost dead.

I believe the LA Times was the "major paper" of which you speak.

The speed that the NYT jumped on this with investigative reporting is akin to a ten month wait list for an abortion.

The NY Slimes knew all this a year or so ago. The Slimes kept this hidden until now to destroy Hillary;s campaign.
