Democrats Soften Edges on Abortion

The Democratic Party is planning a convention designed to soften the edges on the party's support for abortion rights, with a revamped platform and a speaking lineup that reinforces efforts to broaden Democrats' appeal on the hot-button issue.

In a statement fraught with symbolism for those on both sides of the abortion debate, Sen. Bob Casey Jr., D-Pa., an abortion-rights opponent, will be given a prime speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention in Denver later this month.

Casey's father, the late Pennsylvania Gov. Robert Casey, a Democrat who also held strong anti-abortion views, was denied a speaking role at the party's 1992 convention -- a perceived snub that has long been a flashpoint in the party's wrangling over how to handle the abortion-rights debate on the national stage.

In addition, Democrats have adopted a platform that builds on the party's traditional language about preserving Roe v. Wade with pledges to support women who decide against having abortions.

"No one expects the Democratic Party not to support Roe v. Wade, but here we've gone from dogmatic positions to practical solutions," said the Rev. Jim Wallis, a prominent voice in the religious left who consulted with party leaders on ways to signal the party's commitment to reducing the number of abortions.

Anyone stupid enough to fall for this ‘softened’ platform shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

Democrats Soften Edges on Abortion

Yep, now instead of poking into their skulls while still in the birth canal with sharp objects, they will wait till they are born and beat them with much rounder and less pointy clubs.

Good luck Rats. You can’t whitewash your position of abortion when you have the most radical pro-abortion candidate and Senator ever on the top of your ticket.

...Sen. Bob Casey Jr., D-Pa., an abortion-rights opponent...

I suppose if he had an "R" by his name, he'd be an "anti-abortion activist."

How’s that gonna square with Obama Jr.’s “live birth abortion” support?

With a National Right to Life pro-life record of 57. When are the voters going to wake up?

This just proves that the pro-life movement is winning.

I thought abortion was an albatross around the necks of the Republican Party. So why are the Democrats the ones softening their position (or pretending to)?

Oh, Goody! I’m assuming that means that babies will be allowed to be born now, but they’ll just missing one or two limbs that were sucked off earlier in the process?

I loathe these people. I truly do.

The Democratic Party remains as pro-abortion as sen. Obama. The sad fact is that black politicians support abortion even though blacks are the highest% being aborted. This was the stated aim of Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood. She got her way with the full support of most black politicians.

Having pro-life Bob Casey Jr speak at the Dem convention doesn’t soften the lefts pro-abortion policy stance.

It begs a question. Why does Casey remains a Democrat?

Obama has defended his vote by saying that it would have undermined the overarching right to an abortion.

Even after the language was changed to protect the right to abortion, Obama still refused to put the bill to a senate vote. Guess he got off on picturing those dying infants.

Only half his votes on that issue in the Senate have been pro-life! Compared with Santorum, he’s a pro-choicer!

Casey Jr. calls himself pro-life, but his voting record tells a different story. He has voted with NARAL 60% of the time.

The Dems know they have increasing problems with gaining votes from pro-lifers, in particular, Catholic voters, so they are featuring someone who calls himself pro-life, really isn't, and believe me, the rank and file know it too.

Watch what they do and not what they say. Check out the voting records on Obama in regards to abortion issues. Thats all you need to know where he stands on it. Anything else is smoke and mirrors.
