Quarter of Russians blame U.S. for conflict - poll 13 Aug 2008 18:47:42 GMT Source: Reuters MOSCOW, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Russians blame the United States and Georgia for triggering the conflict in Georgia's breakaway region of South Ossetia, with just one percent pointing the finger at Moscow, an opinion poll showed on Wednesday.
When asked who was guilty for the conflict in South Ossetia, 54 percent of those polled blamed Georgia and another 22 percent blamed the United States, a survey carried out by Russia's largest pollsters VTsIOM showed.
A further 12 percent said Russia, South Ossetia and Georgia were jointly responsible for the conflict, it said.

I really don’t think the old “Blame the USA” ruse is going to work this time.
Big deal. Imagine if the poll consisted of citizens of New York.
Did Georgia attack separatists in the region causing Russia to respond, did the separatists attack Georgia and the russians followed up at Georgia defended itself or, is Russia just attacking.
Oh yea, that’s what we need, polls from Rooters telling us how much they hate America, and will blame it regardless of the truth why Russia attacked Georgia.
So, what you’re really saying is that 78% of Russians “don’t” blame the US. I’d say they are way more pro-America than the Democrats.
Russians only have state run media promoting the kremilns policies. They are brainwashed drones or just hate the US.Sure they can read the internet but their views are heavily influenced by Vlady and the state. The poor bastards just dont know how stupid they look.
Yes. Exactly.
Russia wants control of Geogria so they can take control of the pipelines running from the capsian sea, therefore controlling all ME oil to Europe.
I understand your point of view. Still, the question remains, who fired first at whom.
Oh good. For a second there I thought something had happened in the world that wasn’t the US’s fault.
and not just Europe, Turkey, other break awy former soviet countries, Israel, etc.
If they control Georia, they control all the oil flowing east.
Georgia did. To subdue the violence of pro Russian factions.
Not a smart move. But it did bring the Russian threat to a head.

This is a good (backward) recounting of the events, but in reverse order. Starts several days before the Georgians actually crossed the border on Thursday.
No the question is: who had troops on whose sovereign soil?
Answer: Not Georgia.
Russia then sent in tanks and troops.
Russia was there as “peacekeepers” but have likely been arming and training the separatists for the last decade or so.
25% of Russians must believe it was a CIA conspiracy. You know what? I’m inclined to join them. Only the CIA could screw up their conspiracy so bad it results in Russia restoring its authority in an old imperial province.
Or better, or worse, San Francisco or Austin. Or Seattle.
Till tomorrow, then there will be a Kremlin poll.
But you are right. Russians know their government well, and know they are in for another TZar-ship named Putin, and 100 years more misery.
So are tyhe Ukrainians unless they get a bunch of peacekeepers in there quick.
Sad. I've been waiting 50 years to go back to the Ukraine and reclaim my great grandfathers land. Guess I'll just have to go to the UN and demand Russia pay reparations instead. Maybe Savior Obama will support American-Ukrainians ( or should that be Ukrainian-Americans?) in Reparation pursuits from Russia....
