I believe they dominant ethnicity of S.Ossetia is Persian Christian.

Yes, perhaps Persian via Turkey in ages past.They are darker complected in any case, but owe no allegiances to where ever it is that they originally came from by my understanding.

My own ethnicity is from farther South and is more Serbian as my grandmother came from Sarajevo and my grandfather from somewhere in Georgia and both orthodox roman catholic. They left in 1921 as a result of the last Russian invasion.
