(Joseph) Duncan's death penalty hearing to start Wednesday

BOISE, Idaho — For the next several weeks, fifteen Idahoans will review one of the state's most gruesome crimes, deciding whether it was so heinous and depraved that it warrants the death penalty.

And Joseph Edward Duncan III - the convicted killer at the middle of it all - may decline to offer any substantial defense.

The death penalty hearing, which will have 12 jurors and three alternates, begins here Wednesday morning before U.S. District Judge Edward Lodge.

Duncan isn't new to the legal system. A convicted pedophile originally from Tacoma, Wash., his past is littered with arrests and prison time for crimes ranging from stolen cars to rape and molestation. He is suspected in the 1996 slayings of two half-sisters from Seattle, and is charged with the 1997 killing of a young boy in Riverside County, Calif.

But in 2005, he came to Idaho. He stalked a family and then entered their Coeur d'Alene home, murdering 13-year-old Slade Groene, his mother, Brenda Groene, and her fiance, Mark McKenzie. Then he kidnapped the two youngest, 9-year-old Dylan Groene and then-8-year-old Shasta Groene, and fled.

So, how do they deal with the likes of Duncan, if found guilty of a capital crime?

Headline:

Souter, Ginsberg and Breyer vote for life inprisonment. Lame duck President Bush votes for the death penalty as the perpetrator was American and he only really thinks Mexicans deserve mercy.

I would be finding a vein, if I were this maggot.

Idaho executes by lethal injection. Think if need be though we can still pull out a chair, lead, or rope.

Is he in solitary confinement?

Just wondering and assuming so else he would of already met his demise.

And regarding competant in mind it is my opinion that many evil minds are perfectly competant.

I want to know if they are going to prosecute all Duncan’s sugar daddies who equipped him with all the goodies like night goggles, cash, and a car, that he used in stalking, murdering, and abusing this family.

The media covered it up real quick. Let’s not let the public in on the dirty little “lifestyle” secrets.

After they found Shasta, they discovered this guy had been attending community college classes, apparently getting a degree in computer programming.

He posted his decision to go for it- to do his deed, online, after he had seen the kids playing outside their house.

There was briefly some talk about his ability to travel, his purchase of night vision goggles that he used to make sure everyone was asleep at the house, support himself, dress well, etc.

It was briefly mentioned that after he declared his intention to go through with his assault on the family, on his webpage, that he had several wealthy boyfriends who he had been visiting, and who kept him comfy, providing him with cash, clothes, and whatever he needed.

I think they even mentioned him visiting one or more of his sugar daddies while the kids were held captive at the campground.

Wow. Sounds like some of these folks could be named as accessories at worst or be open to large Civil judgements at the least.

Were any names of these 'sugar daddies' released?

I don’t know, but the FBI was involved because he crossed state lines. If they know about the guys, they must know their names.

I hope Shasta’s dad pusues them.
