Weeks before bombs started falling on Georgia, a security researcher in suburban Massachusetts was watching an attack against the country in cyberspace.
Jose Nazario of Arbor Networks in Lexington noticed a stream of data directed at Georgian government sites containing the message:

Hey, remember a few weeks back when someone posted that they couldn’t get onto Michelle Malkin’s website and several other conservative sites?
I posted that Perez Hilton site was getting the same error. No one ever figured out what that was as far as I know.
I wonder if this is connected. I think it was about July 20 or so.
Oh wait, I think it had something to do with a hit counter. I don’t know. I do find it coincedental.
We had two DOS attacks against an EU based server over the last several weeks that interrupted BlackBerry service for a fortune 100 company. First time this has happened in over 4 years of operation. Interesting.
proof that the Russians were planning this well in advance.

The scary thing is that almost every company of any size is dependant upon the net for EDI or FTP or other critical applications.
It’s extreme dumbass to put any critical application on the internet. Amazing how many blue-chips do.
I posted the pic at this link and the caption that came with it.
LOL! Why not ask me? I don't know what the problem is. I used to post pics from the NY Times all the time. I've seen maps from WaPo posted recently.
What’s EDI or FTP?
We should just pull the plug and not let them communicate with any part of the civilized world by landline. If people want to talk on the phone, use a cell. With no data services.
It is just crazy that we continue to let them connect to all the world's computers. We know what they are and what they do. Pull the plug already.
EDI is a system where your purchase order moves electronically to your vendor, the shipping information and invoice move electronically back into your system. Often accompanied by Electronic Fund Transfer.
FTP is File Transfer Protocal, a way to move information. Often used to submit billing or required documenation.
Medicare accepts electronically submitted billing only. If the net goes down there is no way to bill.
If not originated from the US, it seems a blind eye was turned.
And I love your screen name. Sandyeggo. Haha!
