No extreme hazards found in basement workshop that alarmed authorities
MARLBORO— Victor Deeb, the retired chemist who stored hundreds of chemicals in his house, was allowed to return home yesterday after authorities spent three days dismantling his basement laboratory.
None of the materials found at 81 Fremont St. posed a radiological or biological risk, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection. No mercury or poison was found. Some of the compounds are potentially explosive, but no more dangerous than typical household cleaning products.

He better watch out, he might be charged with the anthrax attacks.
no radiological or boilogocal risk and nothing more explosive then many ordinary household chemicals yet the STLL confiscated everything?
So he violated zoning regs. Does that mean my bathroom cabinet wit the household chemicals would violate zoniong regs?
Everything not required is forbidden.

“Chemist”
In England, does that mean that he was a pharmacist?
That in itself is suspicious.
What if he invented something, like a nontoxic replacement for pthalates or Bisphenol A, and published without a patent, lawyer, or program manager?
Marlboro authorities were wise in acting firmly to keep our children safe from such dangerous people.
..............
You rock, Victor Deebs, and good luck and god bless and I hope you sue the tards.
To say the least, but in Massachusetts, you can violate the zoning regs by exhaling. This story, in a nutshell: firemen, visiting his home on an unrelated call, see chem-lab equipment in the home. The authorities then seized everything and are conducting a fishing enterprise to see if they can find some sort of violation. I'm sure they will eventually think of something.
I was privileged to have grown up in a time when little kids could have chemistry sets at home, let alone retired chemists. No wonder the Chinese are beating us at everything.
Watch out - he might have self-replicating blood-borne nanocomputers in that test tube...
Yes, that’s correct ...in England, that is. But this story is from NEW England (Mass.), so he really is a chemist.
I hope he didn’t have any ephedrine. Even a 10 pack of Pseudophed seeing how I have to show my ID to get the dang things.
Well I am in trouble. I have about 12 pounds of mercury, the ingredients to make Thermite, Model rocket engines, igniters, 2 20lb containers of proane, ohh and dont forget the primers and powder for my reloading... In fact if my house catches fire the neighbors should run!
People were afraid - so they created a more powerful government in an attempt to make themselves feel safer.
Now they find that it is their job to make the government feel safe.
So if none of the stuff was illegal, how come they get to demolish his lab? Making a decision without prior goobermint approval in triplicate?
Ping! New articles on Deeb the Chemist.

He’s considering legal action.
In addition to his lab gear and chemicals they took 20 years worth of his lab notes.
He was working on a non-toxic sealant for baby food containers.
Read the comments underneath the articles (there are several if you look on google news search “deeb”), lots of people in the Workers paradise are upset and some are thinking of organizing to help him out.
This needs legs and attention, I think, and I’ll keep up on efforts to help him.
Here is part of Mr. Deeb’s problem- he’s of Middle Eastern descent, possibly Lebanese, and has a laboratory.
He also had a small amount of acetone. Horrors!
Some of the comments in the Telegram’s site compare him to the 911 terrorists, which puzzled me at the time.
Tolerant, accepting Massachusetts.
