Was this his goal all along? Take one on the chin and hope that sympathetic Baltic States will follow?

If the other nations follow suit (and they are already wary), it will be a blow to Russia.

I just thought of something. Saakashvili should barricade himself in his parliament building. The building should be surrounded by protesters armed with candles, and the Russians should be dared to attack. Worked for the Lithuanians.

A little funny if I may.

Leaders from some other countries are heading there. It will be interesting if Russia dares do anything that threatens heads of States of other countries.

1. They won't. There are chances Georgia persuades Ukraine, but they're limited. The Ukrainian authorities cannot push through joining NATO, leave alone pulling back from the CIS.
2. The CIS is a meaningless organisation anyway.

God bless him and keep him safe. He’s begged us for help and we’d better do something more than wring our hands.

Misha, is it all you can do?It's a start. Also the G8 should kick Russia out. There must be more we can do just don't know what it is yet.
Russia won Round 1 but they failed to knock Georgia out. Let's win the rest of the rounds.

Azerbaijan. They BTW have also troops in Iraq and are close to Turkey (linguistic bond and politcally). Interesting. Guess the Azerbaijanis and Armenians are next on Putin’s list to “come home” to the Reich.

President Mikheil Saakashvili should be meeting with military advisers to draw up plans for hit-and-run warfare against the long columns of Soviet (oh, I mean Russian) tanks. IEDs are the perfect weapon for this asymmetrical warfare. The cost of Russian chauvinism and belligerence must be made to be high enough that Putin’s approval will drop amongst his nationalistic groupies who buy into his “just saving Russians” claptrap. Make the bear pay for this bullying, President Mikheil Saakashvili.

Hopefully, other nations follow. If not, it will be a meaningless gesture because there is still a good chance Moscow will install a puppet government in Georgia. If this leads to a chain reaction, it will become a huge embarrassment for Russia.

Also the G8 should kick Russia out OK, what's meant to be Russia's negative consequences in such case?
Russia won Round 1
Russia has never been wanting to knock Georgia out. The occupation has never been an option.
