A Sioux Falls man was shot at after attempting to break into a camper.
18-year-old Jeremy H. Miller was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary, criminal entry into a motor vehicle, and possession of alcohol by a minor. It all happened early Sunday morning at Baltic River Park, which is located about 20 miles north of Sioux Falls.
The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office says that when Miller tried breaking into a camper, the person inside shot at him through a window in the door.
Tommy Little, Sr. of Sioux Falls says he'd do the same. He, his daughter and her friend just arrived at Baltic River Park for some time spent outdoors. But if anything were to happen, he'd be ready.
"I would shoot the person if I felt danger to my family, especially at nighttime. They'd get shot," said Little.
The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office says that's exactly what one camper tried to do when Miller tried breaking into two different campers early Sunday morning. One camper used a .38 caliber handgun to shoot at the 18-year-old through a window in the camper's door.
When deputies arrived, they found Miller hiding out in a nearby car, arrested him, and brought him back to jail.
And while Tommy Little, Sr. plans on enjoying his time here, he says serving in the Marines has taught him to expect the worst to happen, but hope it never does.
"I think you should always be prepared for bad guys. I mean, they're out there and if you want to be taken advantage of just walk around like you're ready to be taken advantage of," said Little, Sr.
Miller made his first appearance in Minnehaha County Court Monday. A judge released him on his own recognizance, but Miller is set to return to court in two weeks.
“A judge released him on his own recognizance”
WHAT?!
Maybe the next Marine won’t miss and he will never make it back to court.
He needs remedial training though. "One shot, one kill", not "One shot, wound him and leave him alive".
A South Dakota jury will make quick work of that young punk and I’m sure most of us in South Dakota applaud what that Marine did. The punk is lucky as I’m sure the Marine could easily have ended things right there.
Don’t go Yogi Berrin’ in South Dakota.
After reading the article twice, it never actually says that Little (the Marine) is the camper that shot at the perp. Are we assuming he is the camper who shot at the perp or is there some other information out there confirming this. This article is not written too well.
